Car A/C efficiency

Anyone know what kind of temperature to expect at the dash vents in Taiwan summers? My car A/C has a kind of slow leak and it needs topping up from time to time (usually once a year) but it never blows really ice cold on the really hot days, even in recirculate mode.

Even after adding r134a to what I assume is a full charge, the lowest I can get is 9 Celsius (sticking a thermometer into the vent). Out on the highway in the sun, this translates into about 30C in the car interior, which is still pretty stuffy.

Am I expecting too much?

You still driving the Rodeo? Mine was a freezer blasting machine, and I could get down to 5c on the vent.

Yeah, still got the Rodeo. That’s what I suspected - the A/C should be cooling a lot better than it is. I am worried the compressor is “tired” and on its way out.

Thinking to let maybe half the r134a out and replace it with camping gas (propane/butane mix) which has better thermal efficiency.
