I used to drink it 6 or 7 months of the year in Shanghai, during the warm/hot humid season and it did wonders for my endurance. Is it possible to find this in Taiwan?
I never heard of it… I have seen carbonated water but not carbonated salt water. It is possible you can make them yourself with sodastream…
Like a sports drink?
Sports drink would be better, like Pocari Sweat
Except for the plasticizers they were caught putting in them.
Sports drinks…in some ways are better than what I am talking about because they have other electrolytes…but they also have sugar -usually a lot!
What I am talking about is only water, salt, co2 and maybe some no-sugar flavoring, like lemon or lime. Yummy!
Is there a full list of companies that were caught using plasticisers? I would like to avoid them.
I see what your’e getting at. I would be keen on a drink with electrolytes and sodium but no sugar too! Maybe we should get in the market? Sell our own ![]()
You can buy American Gatorade (though you’ll pay top dollar) at Wellman’s and various department store supermarkets (though not on a consistent basis), and you can buy Filipino Gatorade for half the price at the Filipino store on the Chungshan North Road. Cannot vouch for the Pinoy stuff but the US stuff should be OK.
Sports drinks are essentially what you are looking for, and the locals ones have trust issues (as stated above) and are all the same boring ass flavor.
You could always ask your doctor for some hydration mix (its a powder that you add to water that rehydrates you quickly).
Thanks but Gatorade also has sugar. I am not diabetic (at least I think not) but have noticed that sugar tends to increase my appetite, so makes appetite control a problem, and therefore weight control more difficult. Hydration mix sounds promising, but the links that I looked into all indicate that they are also a vitamin drink…I already have a pretty well defined regimine for vitamins, diet, etc. I am looking for just simple, poor old salt water with a bit of fizz, and a twist of lemon, shaken, not stirred
Maybe I can just buy a CO2 tank and a soda dispenser?
So what is the purpose of adding plasticizers to the drink? Did they suddenly decide that they want to make a few million people sick or something so they decided to add plasticizers to the drink, or is there any cost saving involved?
I mean all they really have to add is water, sugar, salt, flavoring, etc. to make sports drink. I don’t get the logic here.
Um. Carbonating machine. Cheap. Water. Salt. Fresh lemon juice. No-brainer.
Fancy label, shit hot advertising, people posting pics on facebook, it will become a big brand seller.

To make it look cloudy (suspending particles) and have a ‘smooth’ mouth feel …
Yes, the plasticizers are often added to give things a “creamy taste”

Buy some club soda (aka soda water, sparkling water, or seltzer) and add salt and a squirt of lemon juice.
Buy a personal carbonation machine. You can buy the syrups I think or just don’t add any, and add salt instead.
