These people are advertising on Forumosa right now - I don’t know
how they would have found out about this site - that worries me. These people are SERIOUS TROUBLE - assuming it’s still run by Jessie (she could have changed her English name).
There was almost no usable curriculum - I had to spend hours every day/night making up games and lesson plans - you cannot use the ones they have. The woman who runs the place was never happy until she had made me look unhappy - she is a CONTROL FREAK - and this is no exaggeration, I promise. She kept making negative comments to me - almost constantly - and not because I did anything wrong. For example, she questioned that my degree was real - ridiculous! I am obviously educated. She was never ever satisfied and constantly monitored me in the classroom - sometimes even making very rude remarks relevant to my teaching right IN FRONT OF the students. Also, she spoils them because she’s very afraid of losing business. She showed my resume to the Chinese Teacher, without asking me of course, who proceeded to smugly make comments to me about it during a class. When I signed the contract, she said the photocopier wasn’t working, and I never got a copy - so I didn’t know what it really said. She then used the threats in the fake English contract that she’d given me before to make my life constantly under enormous pressure. It said if she fired me - and we know this could be for ANY reason - she didn’t have to pay me and she would keep me from teaching in the area again for a year - she used this to constantly make my life hell every day. After I left, she sent me nasty anonymous email messages - I knew they couldn’t be from anyone else. The woman before me had RUN AWAY OVERNIGHT because she couldn’t take it any longer - I found this out from another Carleton teacher - and now Jessie’s looking for TWO teachers!!! I ended up getting constantly ill from the stress. I am not making any of this up or exaggerating - don’t believe a word they say - this woman is seriously nasty - AVOID like a garbage dump!!!
I worked for another Carleton school and I can confirm almost everything the OP has said in his post. They (my manager and his) must have had manager training together. The owner of the franchise is a guy named Mason. Avoid him and his schools like the plague. I could add pages to what the OP has said, but I would just sound bitter and vindictive.
I have just noticed that she wants the teachers right now! She only has two teachers at her school, and her terms begin after Chinese New Year and in September. Very odd - it sounds like perhaps two of them did the midnight run together!
I just thought of something else. Someone I know was working at the Banqiao branch. He was accused of child molestation and fired, even though they later acknowledged that he didn’t do it. There’s no way this guy would molest anyone - he loves children, is really good with them, and is a Christian. Perhaps some branches of Carleton are better than others, but what Josephus said doesn’t make them sound good.
What difference does it make if he is Christian or not? I’m sure he was innocent, but you don’t have to bring up that. I mean look at some Catholic priests…religion doesn’t matter.
Okay - but I just meant he’s a devout one and such a person would obey Christian “rules” - I don’t think the Bible would approve of child molestation, somehow, or at least not the New Testament, which is what modern Christians focus on - the teachings of Christ. I’m not Christian, by the way.
Earlier, I looked at an ad they posted in February and I don’t remember seeing “two of our teachers will be leaving in April” - I think they may have changed that bit recently! Right after Chinese New Year would be the perfect time for the two previous teachers to have run away, because they would only lose four days’ pay. Even if this is not so, my previous information still stands. They found it difficult to get CTs also.
I’ve worked at Carleton International school-mucha branch since
November, 2004, and we’ve never had a teacher/manager named
Jessie. And all the teachers at my school have been using their names
for years.
We’ve never heard any feedback of having trouble using/following the
activities written in teacher’s editions from teachers. And we appreciate
all ideas presented from our teachers, some of them really make
learning and teaching more fun.
We trust our teachers and have never questioned on their degrees. But
I’M ALSO WONDERING WHY YOUR PREVIOUS MANAGER(Jessie, as you
mentioned) WOULD QUESTION ON YOUR DEGREE. For us, the teachers
present the school. We trust them when THEY ARE QUALIFIED and
SHOW US THAT THEY ARE QUALIFIED. We had met too many NATIVE
SPEAKERS WITH A DEGREE, but were still poor at writing and spelling.
They not just made grammar mistakes on the comments about the
students which would be sent to the parents, but also weren’t able to
mark the writing work done by grade 3 students. That made me have
to look for new teachers, for my students sake!
Observing the classes is necessary. We not only observe the teachers,
but also the students. We have to find out the learning problems that
the kids have and their different personalities in order to help them
with learning (especially a different language) and self development.
We don’t interrupt teachers in general, no need to say making rude
remarks of the teachers IN FRONT OF THE STUDENTS. We care about
our teachers (chinese teachers and foreign teachers) as much as we
care about our students.
About the nasty anonymous messages you got. I can only say the
person who wrote those messages was extremely immature. I think it’s
nice of you to write down your unhappy experiences in order to warn
people to avoid from what you had experienced!! A nice person like
you shouldn’t be upset about those silly messages.
Yes, we are looking for new teachers again!! We never stop trying to
get better teachers. The teachers we had before quit for different
reasons, but i believed we didn’t give them any hard time even their
leave did bring us trouble.
It was a shock for me when i read what you had posted. I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy your time when you were teaching here. But i’m also uncomfortable about what you wrote about my school. If those were the issues happened between you and the previous manager, SHE IS NOT HERE ANYMORE!!! Please stop calumniating our school. We are trying very hard to make our school better, and i think IT IS much better than IT WAS.
