Carnegies in the news

i don’t know if it’s the same story but my roommate came home tonight saying there is a poster (haibao) going around local internet sites purporting to promote taiwan to foreigners as a place for “easy pussy”

carnegies logo is visible on the poster which has prompted bob marshall to appear on the news denying any connection and saying it is some sort of smear campaign…

…has anyone seen this poster?

…sounds like it might be time to organise a wee protest by non-sleazy foreign males (must be at least a couple here?)

carnegies.net/index2.html

I saw the ad on the news today. Some reporter interviewed a local guy at Carnegies, she asked,“Do you often see foreigners having intimate contacts with local girls in the bar?” He said, Yeah, all the time." And they took 5 mins to discuss about Taiwanese girls favor “western food” phenomenon.
I said to my bf that it is perhaps not such a good idea to hold hands in public anymore. It’s not like I care how people see me. I just think it is not safe to do that anymore. Just last week I saw a Taiwanese couple humping outside of the Breeze Center in public. (I wish I had a camera.) And it was just after 10 pm, but nobody seemed to have problems with it. I don’t understand why “women like us” get special treatment.

Mmm. I just saw Bob, the manager from Carnegies on San Li news and commented on it here.

Yeah I saw that after Bob disputed the claims about the ad. It also went on to mention that it was ahighly succesful bar.

However the next piece, while obviously led in by the Carnegies story, was a different story altogether. It actually pitched the Taiwanese women as the ones fishing which was almost a welcome change. The negative white man bit came in the “just desert or a main course comment.”

That ad’s been passed around for a while in Taiwan and then to me, which of course I passed around. Actually, for something not sponsored by Carnegies, it is suspiciously professional looking. I think the media is stirring the pot again. No one seemed to pull any punches when Fridae.net ran a story about Taiwan’s gay scene called “ROC Republic of Cock”. This is just more publicity for Carnegies. The manager or Bob or whatever his name is, the one that is like few years older than me, but looks like he is about 40 years older than me, is a twit. Waiting in line to get into a club in Taipei? Give me a break.

Flicka, with all due respect, I think it’s the folks waiting in line that are the twits in this case.

I don’t understand why this is even news or an issue.

Certainly not newsworthy, but worth a comment in this here forum.

Crazy People ! If there are easy women there then why complain ! There ought to be more of them !

as someone mention in the other forum, Carnegies is a meat market for both male and female if they are looking for some pimp daddy or suga mama. If you are non-asian looking, you are def a HOT SHOT in there.

Been there once just to have fun and brought a customer of ours there. He sure had a great time in the meat market…

I didn’t like how they promoted Taipei in general as a place for pussy. It offended me a bit.

I’ll say, Jonah.
But be careful some Taiwanese women might consider you “the epitome Western chauvinism/imperialism in Asia”. There are plenty of nationalists out there.

Don’t be. I don’t understand why Taiwanese get all stirred up when people are telling the truth(or partially the truth). It reminds me of the Johnny Walker ad thing. I think the government decided to boycott it for one year just because the ad made fun of the bad quality of stuff made in Taiwan. Self-esteem, or self-pity?

Don’t be?? Part of it is true but not all. Not all girls are gold-digger in Taiwan (they are everywhere in the world, esp. China, wanting to marry an American citizen so they can move to US), not all girls are slutty (compare to those in NY, LA or even some Asian countries), not all products made in TW had bad quality (stuff made in China or philippines are worth)

It would be the same if I said US is full of lazy-ass, FAT people, Australia is full of dumb-ass kiwis … etc (I am using it as examples, so don’t bash on me for it) We are in Taiwan so we should respect the people and cultures here as they would if they come to US or Australia, NZ, Japan, Korea…etc

my 2 cents ane a dime.

Hey, Whisbie rocks! It’s like the Jager of the east!

um dont know why my post is the start of this thread…i posted it as part of the thread on the human rights branch…it now looks like im anti-carnegies when i meant anti SET news…anyway there is no way this poster has anything to do with carnegies surely…the place may not be in good taste but it cant be this bad taste…whole things a storm in a teacup surely…oh and miaka

" If you are non-Asian looking, you are def a HOT SHOT in there. "

this is a slightly extreme opinion surely…it’s not like you walk in the door and girls come running at you (well ok maybe 1 or 2 on a good night)…most nights there are so many guys trying to get lucky that you cant see the wood for the trees (or some such mixed metaphor)

oh and I apologise for my above use of the word “surely” thricely… must be time to change to a stronger coffee

I’m not a huge fan of the place, but I can’t stand seeing people falsely accused of stuff. I have a friend who knows the people very well; it was not them who created or used the ad.

Dear Members & Friends, Taipei, 13th November, 2003

I discovered yesterday, upon receiving a phone call, that an email has begun to circulate clearly intended to cause as much damage to this establishment as possible. This email, which I shall not attach in the interests of decency depicts in animated form, parts of the female anatomy in a totally pornographic and demeaning manner. Also in this same graphic is the Carnegie

Man, am I glad I don’t have a TV.

Miaka, I don’t go to Carnegies for probably much the same reason you dislike the place, but even I have a hard time believing that Carnegies would put out such a dumb ad.

I never got any out of Carnieges and I’m a handsome devil, suave gentleman, and downright good guy :sunglasses:

I have gotten plesantly smashed, had a good meal, and quite a few laughs, however, so I’m not bitter about being shunned by the la meis.

Nor do I mind if people meet there and then go off some where to fuck. Like that doesn’t happen in just every pub in the world. :unamused:

and i’m more handsome than brad pitt but i’m batting 0.00; what’s up wid that?

I bat 12".

To bad your pitching to yourself  and apparently you swing and miss a lot when in a real game…super dad.
