Don’t fret too much about it…beer and smokes are community property!

Thanks for the reassurance. Hisory both supports & contradicts your view.

What is Property? Or, an Inquiry into the Principle of Right and of Government is the title of a book by the 19th century French anarchist Pierre-Joseph Proudhon.

Proudhon declared that “Property is theft”, as well as “Property is Freedom” and also claimed that “Property is impossible.” Although he was a socialist, he rejected communitarianism and believed that individual possession – which he distinguished from private property – was necessary both for liberty and for an efficient economy.

Unfortunately, as Douglas Adams later pointed out in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, the term property is in common usage as a term for what Proudhon calls possession. Taken out of context, it can be an excellent way to justify stealing: “Property is theft, right? Therefore theft is property, therefore this [insert stolen item here] is mine…”

Substitute the word beer for property & I have my justification.
Beer is theft, Beer is freedom. Long live the revolution.

I don’t wish to get anyone fired, through an incident that happened about 5 months ago, just letting you know, oldest scam in the world. It wasn’t one of your waitresses. More of a busboy. Near the end of the night. Telling you what he looked like would be stupid, short, black hair, etc. Don’t tell me you’ve never had a scammer in your midst, being an international bar manager surely you’ve seen them all.

Busboy? What do you mean? Your noble intentions aside; Firing someone for doing as you allege is preferable to retaining them and ripping off consumers. We’ve caught people on the take and they’ve been summarily dismissed. Unfortunately, some have been re-employed in similar capacities in other bars.

Nonetheless, I believe firmly that the quality of service you get here exceeds by far that in many/most places in this city and I tend to believe in the honesty of staff members, though not discounting the possibility that some could veer off the straight and narrow. In the light of what you said, I’ll post a warning to everyone here, as it is clearly unacceptable.

What do I mean by busboy? Well for the greater part of the night we had a lovely female waitress. Later in the night, quite late actually, she took our bill and cashed out at which point a “busboy”, someone who looked as though he was there to scurry cases of beer to and fro, became our server of sorts. It was he and his other “busboys” that were working thier “new found” wealth creation scheme. By all means fire them all if they steal. I would and have and will continue to do.

impleased: PM’d you.

Bob

Never mind all that, what about my mustard ?

No doubt one reason people post complaints re Carnegies here is that they know TpeBob reads them and acts upon the same.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the managers of other establishments also posted on Forumosa and were willing to listen to and act upon complaints regarding their establishments?

Keep up the good work, TpeBob.

And to be fair and accurate, Alleycat also accepts and acts on criticisms posted here on Formosa… so, keep up the good work, Alleycat.

Hexuan: ‘Your’ mustard has been here since last Thursday; in time for your all-day eating binge which in an earlier post you had assured us all would take place last Sunday. I can assure you that, although others have partaken of ‘The Coleman’s’, sufficient remains for you to enjoy. This mustard, though expensive, will be our Sunday Mustard Standard (SMS) and available on request at other times. Fear not.

Incidentally, as it looks like a few of you are intending to be here this coming Sunday (11th) to welcome back HGC and it happens to be Easter Sunday, I was considering, in the spirit of Easter / religious fervour (?) etc., of showing that most ‘Eastery’ of Easter Films on the big screen and the TV’s…“The Life Of Brian”. If interested, let me know what time is best (I’d suggest after food and a skinful of ale, but that’s just a suggestion)…

Cheers,

Colonel Mustard did it!

I guess we should let HGC tell us exactly what time he’ll be at Carnegies. HGC indicated that we could meet for brunch… what time is that… 11:00 am?

The movie sounds great. Yes, after some food and ale, and then with more ale.

Indeed; Brunch begins at 11 a.m. (through until 5 p.m.)

Regards,

Bob

Are drinks served from 11 to 5? :sunglasses:

Indeed Mr. Smith. And thereafter too, all the way through until 2 a.m. That’s 15 hours. 15 hours @ (neo-conservative estimate of) 2.5 glasses of Wolf Blass per hour = 37.5 glasses = 7.5 bottles (or 5.625 litres / 9.903 imperial pints). I know that you are capable of this and I know that we are able to cater for this eventuality.

That leaves plenty of beer for the rest of us.

Bob

Well as a rule I’m not seen out of doors before 12 on a weekend. I therefore propose a start of around 12:30?

Life of Brian would be good indeed. I hear its being offerd asan alternative to the Passion of the Christ.

So Bob, need anymore Colman’s?

HG

I was a bit uncomfortable with the early 11:00 am (that “am” bothers me) start. I generally don’t like to start drinking until noon.

So, 12:30 pm works well for me.

HG: Well, maybe just one small jar. I can keep this in the safe in times of crisis / supply problem and it can be used for those who a Coleman’s-less diet would mean instant expiry / misery / mental imbalance.

Other than that all you need to bring is yourself (some cash would be a gesture too) and an understanding of the true meaning of Easter (that’d be contained in The New Testament - Eric Idle version).

Cheers,

Bob

I’ll pop in to Moi Wo Wellcome tonight.

Much appreciated. Bring a receipt (I miss those receipts that say: “Wellcome - Sivermine Bay”) and I will re-imburse you, at the prevailing exchange rate, from our newly established ‘mustard fund’ - a sub-division of the petty cash box.

Cheers,

Bob

You can have the receipt but I’ll not be wanting your money my good man.

But TpeBob:

I so rarely drink on Sundays, but I guess since it is Easter perhaps I can make an exception in the interests of resurrection and all that. Just make sure that I get a cab as usual at 4:30 a.m. to take me home? and, er, someone to, ahem, help me into the cab, oh hell, I need someone to pour me into the cab as usual if that’s still a service you offer?
