i never thought this even existed, i mean cats feel so slender and fragile, how do you even go about beating them? and what reason is enough to go ham and lay down a beating on one? can’t think of any myself.
but yea, just saw my neighbour with his cat on a leash -kinda weird to begin with- laying down a vicious beating with a foam stick. i checked it out because the cat was noisy as hell, as you can imagine it wasn’t enjoying it. is this normal here? wtf is wrong with my dumbass neighbour??

It is becoming a fashion to walk your cat on a leash. Cannot start to say how problematic that is in a crowded mall. Especially by some inexperienced stick figure xiaojie who cannot even hold up her own purse let alone hang on to a leash when the cat starts thrashing about…

Cat on a leash is recommended by American cat behavior shows, such as My Cat from Hell, for a certain types of cats, especially those who are very territorial.
Since there are a number of cat transmitted diseases without an effective vaccine, for some owners it is simply a better alternative than letting the cat out of the house on its own. Especially since here in Taiwan people tend to live in cities and apartment buildings, so it isn’t as easy for cats to go out on their own, and they also have a greater risk of being ran over by cars, and effectly don’t really have an outdoor to go to in the first place.
Or being mauled by stray dogs -like our neighborhood’s veggie sellers 7 year old, beautiful A miau… may he rest in peace.
People who know what they are doing, why and how to take the cat out, when to take him in, how to react to situations that may arise, do not worry me. People who do it following the fashion and use the wrong harness for starters or go to places cats have no enjoyment -walking in the park, supervised, so cat can enjoy smells and such is one thing, different from cat in a stressful, noisy mall environment full of people where he cannot move nor run if frightened, but is held rigidly like a doll for show…
That is my meaning. Cats as accessories, no! Cats are healthy companions who enjoy nature or other people of are outside happily, yes.

Well this was out on their balcony. Not exactly taking it out for a stroll. He seemed to be trying to discipline it before putting it in its cage. This wasnt even a stick figure girl, it was a typical vest and sandals wearing taiwanese dude and he was having trouble keeping it under control. The whole thing was disturbing. I will try to catch it if it happens again but im basically the only neighbour with a view.
Someone, preferably the police should let the guy know that cats don’t respond well to physical punishment…
Well, if you see the kind of child rearing techniques employed here, it wouldn’t surprise you to see how much beating of both small people and animals happens as par de course.
Luckily for the cat, a video would land the neighbor in deep. Foam thinghy or not to make the bruises not that obvious. At least a bad couple of days from Apple Daily/Next TV coverage. However, it has happened before, and authorities here do not know enough/think they are powerless, and in the same way they take the children back to abusive parents, take the pet back to his owner.
well i have the footage anyway. i had all the windows done up and the ac on and i still heard the clap sound and the cat noise.
its pretty fucked up, he was hanging the cat up by the leash- hanging in the air. then viciously beating it. not sure its even foam looked like something harder. afterwards the cat was just laying on the floor spent.

Sounds like the man is a scum bag who has no idea how to look after a pet. Get the footage online to one of the facebook groups in Taiwan that look after cats. That will garner a response.
the guy was doing it again tonight after i got home. i put the balcony light on and opened the back door (which directly faces their balcony) but it made no difference, the sister(i’m guessing) was there and didn’t try to stop him… weird.
anyway he picked it up again for the usual beating so i got pissed , went outside and shouted at him. he looked really shocked, said bu hao yi si and went back inside.
as a side note, he was half naked which just made the whole thing even weirder.

Um, it’s actually illegal to video people on/in their property without consent, isn’t it? I’m actually surprised no one has mentioned this. I wouldn’t show that video to anyone if I were you.
Case in point, approximately five years ago, I witnessed a guy across the alley beating his wife on four five occasions, and I finally got it on tape. Not knowing what to do, I asked Forumosa for advice, and I was explicitly told to keep the video to myself. But I did call the cops. The next day, my laoban was fucking furious with me. “Mind your own business!” I was told.
I do have a suggestion for OP, but I don’t think it’s ethical or practical, and thus, nobody wants to hear it.

If you can just pretend you’re recording video every time you see him doing it, it will probably help.
I remember that one time super_lucky was pounding the shit right out of me with a big ass cast iron potato masher out on his balcony, just because I said Panama was in my Top 10 VH songs. Like just frigging whaling on me.
And then he noticed his neighbor lady video-ing the whole thing on her phone, so he knocked it off.
Lord knows I’d have probably ended up in the dang ICU if she hadn’t intervened.
Had to stick half my damn scalp back on with duct tape as it was.
