Are cats more intelligent or dogs
This annoying laugh and AI generated video made me almost give you a thumbs down
99% of my cat pics are real. I often wonder wth do you guys live?
In what country?!
Bodega in the Nuyorican sense.
There’s a Bodega Cats photo feed. I follow their Bluesky feed. I assume they’re on Instagram, Twitter, etc. as well.
I know nothing about Bluesky, but bodega cats are all over the internet.
Bodega Cats: The Unofficial Mascots of New York (and beyond) Bodega cats are the semi-feral, totally beloved cats that live in New York City’s corner stores (bodegas), delis, and small markets. They’ve become a cultural icon, internet sensation, and surprisingly effective natural pest control.
Why They Exist
-
Primary job: Keep rats and mice away (far more effective and cheaper than exterminators).
-
Secondary jobs: Greet regulars, pose for photos, judge your 3 a.m. snack choices, and provide free therapy.
Legal Status (the gray area)
-
Technically illegal: NYC Health Code §81.15 bans live animals in food establishments (except service animals and fish in tanks).
-
Practically tolerated: The Health Department almost never enforces it against bodega cats because they’re seen as a public-health asset. Fines are rare unless the cat is visibly sick or walking on food-prep surfaces.
Current Stats (fun numbers)
-
Estimated 10,000+ bodega cats in NYC alone.

Best Places to Spot Them
-
Upper Manhattan (Washington Heights/Inwood) – highest concentration.
-
Jackson Heights, Queens – multicultural bodegas, multilingual cats.
-
Bushwick/Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn – most photogenic ones.
-
They’ve spread: Now common in Philadelphia, Chicago, Miami, and even Los Angeles carnicerías and liquor stores.
Well we’ve solved the next plague beforehand.
