Someone checked for me in the USA and they told me that I cannot get my police report unless I go in person get finger-printed etc. in the USA. Please tell me it is isn’t so and shed some light upon why the Police in the USA would say this? Any pointers on how and what to ask for? Does it matter which precinct I go to? I haven’t lived in the USA for about 7 years.
[Moderator’s Note: What is being discussed is the “Clean Criminal Record Documentation” or CCRD. This document is often needed in to accompany various types of residency applications in Taiwan.]
I called the police department and they said the same thing. I told them we were here and weren’t able to come in person. They faxed us the form to fill-out, and then we had to fax it and my husband’s ID back to them (DL and SSN, I think). They faxed the form back and sent the original in the mail. They hand-wrote ‘original’ at the top, so that the ROC gov’t would accept it. It only took a few days, other than the mail time, itself. You also need to have that authenticated by an overseas TECRO office. Oh, we called the precinct in the USA that we have our permanent address with.
When I applied for the ARC - I pointed out that I had spent more time in Taiwan in the last 7 years than the UK. I was told to go to the Bureau of Entry and Exit (No. 15 Gwangchow St.) and to ask for a record of my entries and exits. After I got that (2 days later), I was able to get a copy of my Taiwanese police record - and that was enough to complete the processing of the ARC.
I am a little surprised here at the need for this documentation. I got my first ARC in Jan 2001 and this was renewed in Jan 2002. Whilst I know that the company completed the paperwork this sort of thing they could not do and I got no request to provide it either, so maybe it is not so critical after all.
Is a CCRD necessary for all JFRV applications ? Will the foreign spouse of a foreign resident also need this magical document ? Is it then the case that I will not need to get one for my work based resident visa but my wife will for her JFRV ? Surely Mr Logic was on holiday that day ?
I haven’t seen an answer by anyone with actual legal expertise. My belief based on personal experience is ‘no’, but that’s purely anecdotal. See this thread:
