Change in big bike licences

Was chatting with a taiwanese guy online, and this was in one of his replies after I told him I’m gunna do the test in July-August~
For the driver license … don’t wait to long, word is out they are going to change the system. If I remember correctly it will start from Aug-01.
From that day, you will have one more class added, the +1200cc license.
If you have a heavy-license now and you own a +1200cc, then you can ‘simply’ ( wait and see how simple that will be ) exchange it for the super-license. If not, you will need to re-test before you can buy a +1200cc. No details yet on the difference of testing … basically it means pay twice I think.
anybody know anything more about this??

I think he’s referring to the additional restriction that the Department of Transportation is trying to implement by not allowing bikes with less than 1200 (or I’ve also heard 1300, 1600cc versions as well) onto the freeways here. If that’s the case, then both bikes and riders would need to have a new category of licenses. But it’s being contested since the legislatures original mandate earlier this year was that all bikes over 550cc would be allowed on the freeways within the next 2 years.

Yeah, but he gave a date… August 1st~

August 1st?.. Well, given that the Taiwan government has no idea what they are doing themselves, it’s safe to assume that the chances of anyone else correctly guessing what their next idiotic move will be are slim to none… Plus you can bet the farm on them adopting the least logical, most hassle intensive regulations their little minds can conjure up regarding these “freeway class” licences… Making everyone that’s already jumped through the fiery hoops required for a big bike license do yet another test regardless sounds like just the kind of unecessary pain in the arse, passive aggressive, anti big bike jab in the ribs that they love the most…

This guy isn’t by any chance the owner of a bike shop you’ve been talking about buying a litre bike with?

Nah~ He’s just a fellow rider, though he’s from Taipei…

btw. llary~ you still gunna come and do it together?? I’m still not sure if I’m gunna go for July or August… I have time both months, but with the possibility of these changes, I’m thinking about July… BUT (another) my friend doesn’t have money to do it in July, and has to wait till August~
