Changing jobs in midstream

I am leaving a job at the end of this month to take another job – one month earlier than the end of my job contract\work permit. My relationship with the employer is amicable, and the employer even wants me to do part-time work for them on the side of my new job. My first question is: will it be difficult to obtain a new visa from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? I am wondering if they will not be happy that I left my current contract early and want me to go get a tourist visa or something and come back. My second question is: My current work permit will be cancelled by my current employer February 1, possible a few days before Foreign Affairs can finalize the visa, should they want to do so. Is this a problem? I suppose I know the answer: go to Hong Kong for a tourist visa just to be safe.
