Changing tourist visa to a "we're going to get married" visa

So, I’m in a pickle here. I renewed my tourist visa, which I have for Mandarin studies, for the first time today. They only gave me a month, because the papers I showed that I was only enrolled until August 29. I explained that it’s just because they haven’t told us to enroll for the next session yet. I had the erroneous assumption that extensions were 2-months no matter what.

Oops.

So, that screws up a lot of stuff. You see, the ladyfriend (who’s Taiwanese) and I are planning on getting married in December, or sometime around then, but we’re probably going to say the official I dos in the US. However, as it stands now, I have one more visa extension left that will last me until the end of October, not November as I had planned. So, what I’m wondering is if we can go to immigration and tell of our plans to marry in the US in December, but that we have paperwork and processing (and my classes until mid-November) that necessitate me being here until December.

Is there any chance of this working?

I don’t have the money to do a visa run, and I won’t have proof of four more months of study necessary to get a student visa, so I’m kind of in a bind. Overstaying my visa isn’t really an option because I’d be overstaying by a whole month or two. I could hardly explain that as a miscalculation (as I’ve seen on other threads here), and pay a NT$1000 fine, right?

Any advice?

Hello, rmaguir, you know what? i recognised your id, then i realised i was searching on youtube and i’ve seen quite a few of your videos!!

I’m marrying my Taiwanese girl in December as well!

I also need to ask the forum users , will I need a different kind of Visa when I come back to visit and marry my girl later this year?

Hey, tigerpaul, it’s a small cyber world. Hope you enjoyed some of those vids.

Congrats on the engagement!

It’s now looking like I’m going (very reluctantly) to head back to my old buxiban to work until December, which will get me an ARC, health care, and some much needed cash. I had hoped to do something more rewarding with my time here, but, alas, we need money to make all of this work, and this is the surest way to get it.

As for the visas you need, I’ll give you the same site someone else gave me: visajourney.com. There’s a lot of info there that should be helpful. I’d offer you more help, but I’m in the same boat. I’m still trying to figure this stuff out myself.

My girl has emailed the Taipei Representative Office in the UK and they replied to her that I can marry her just on my normal Visitors visa that I usually get when I go to visit her.

I don’t know about your situation though as you are in Taiwan and working there. What I dont understand is you say you are going to marry her in Taiwan but then have the official “I do’s” in the US. You see from my understanding you can only actually get married once, so therefore won’t the official “I do’s” be in Taiwan???

I am officially marrying my fiancee in Taiwan, and then in UK having a second ceremony, but that one will not have any legal meaning, it’s just for my family really.
