My old phone is slowly dying, and I was set to buy the cheapest Nokia replacement (about 1600NT, IIRC) in RTMart, when I noticed that some (Samsung, I think) models with GPS were only just over twice as much.
They any good? I assume there are maps and that they’ll only show Chinese?
I didn’t get a demo but may be able to arrange one if I go back with my gf.
If you get an Android phone, even a cheap one, you will be able to select the language to use English, and your map software (especially Google Map that comes with Android) will also be in English. That is how my phone is set up. GPS on phones works pretty well.
If you want to use it in Taipei then beware that GPS is not 100% accurate, especially when in a valley like cityscapes (multipath and all that). So use judgement, and/or give the device a little time to get better lock. Of course get a phone with better GPS antenna, will improve performance, but it is difficult to know which phone has a better GPS antenna. Even the best GPS equipments experiences same issue when in a tough environment anyway, so I say just go ahead and use the phone one.
I am not fond of Nokia since the Microsoft inside take over… and not at all certain that Windows Phone 7 or whatever they come out is at all capable of customization.
