My ex-gf/current friend is coming for a quick visit. As I have a new girlfriend who I am happy with and who is quite handy with edged objects , I will not be inviting said ex into my home. She’s asked I find her a cheap (NT1500 or less a night), clean place to stay. Hostels are out, unless they are quite private. To be at all conveniant to my life, she needs to be close to Shi-lin market or Technology building MRT.
Any suggestions? Is there a hotel finder that can narrow my search by district of Taipei? Google came up dry on that one…
Any help would be much appreciated, she arrives startlingly soon.
NT$1500 a night in Taipei is dead cheap for a hotel, I think. I remember reading on here about a kind of “nicer” hostel that was very reasonably priced and very far from the typical “backpacker” type of place. Own room, internet, blah blah, pics looked nice – pretty much like a fairly nice hotel room. Who posted it? Maybe Juba, maybe Muzha Man, I can’t remember. That would probably be your best bet.
Just south of Daan MRT station, is a small hotel set above a little pasta shop. Don’t know the price or quality but it certainly looks clean and fine from the outside. Anyway, it is only one stop from Technology Building so you may want to check it out.
The hostel Sandman is mentioning is Mandarin Hostel. You do get your own room in a small apartment. But they are not near the places you mentioned.
The China Youth Corps (Jiuguotuan) Jiantan Hostel is in Shilin, less than 10 minutes walk from Shilin MRT station and the night market. It offers both hostel and hotel-style accommodation. It is a big place, definitely clean and safe. There are no single rooms. Double rooms are available at NT$1880. (Dorm beds can be booked by individuals with Hostelling International membership).
