I have tried a number of websites like Hulu and Netflix but get the disappointing message “not available in your country”. I have read many posts here from other people and survey says the answer is to get a vpn. Can you share with me the vpn’s that you are using and that work reliably and are cheap? I had witipoia in China but I think that is overkill for what I need here…or isn’t it?
I use overplay vpn. Works for BBC also, and on android.
are there any tw based, so that I can pay by bank transfer?

I want to know the answer to this as well. I looked at the website for Overplay, it’s $9.95 a month. A little bit pricy for me, though I’d pay that much if I had to.

Usenet + Couchpotato + Sickbeard (for TV shows). Around US$10 a month depending on your provider. Give $10 once to nzbmatrix or another nzb site once to get api access and you’re good. Maxes out your connection and downloads extremely fast. I have 12mbps fiber here in Sanchong and I can download a full movie in about 10-15 minutes for standard def depending on size. Way more selection than Netflix.
I built an HTPC last year when I got my new apartment for around NT6k and it grabs all my stuff for me automatically, I got a remote for it, and just watch it on my TV.
Most NZB download software for win/mac allows ‘preview’ which is basically streaming because it downloads way faster than you can watch it. I use a program called Binreader for mac when I want to watch something on my computer.
You need a US based VPN to watch contents with IP restrictions in the US. Witopia is great because its fast, and you can get gateways to many countries like US, UK, Germany, Hong Kong, Australia, and many others if you use their open VPN (rather than the other one) service. It’s not too expensive when you consider that you pay money for premium TV anyways.

I’m not sure which option would be best…probably the cheaper version would be fine, but I would ask the company directly to make sure.
Here’s what I did the for the VPN. I checked ddWRT’s website, picked up a cheap DLink router at Zhongguancun (at the time I was in Beijing), installed ddWRT on it, opened VPN service on it, mailed it to my parents, and told my dad to replace the router with that one. Now I have a free VPN and have had one for the last 4 years.

It’s an alternative firmware to install on routers. Far superior to the stock ones.
There are a number of free vpn downloads available if you search. I personally don’t use them, so I’m not sure about the reliable or best ones.
i use ibvpn its like $20 for 4 months… i heard hidemyasspro works well too. Lot of vpn sites like ibvpn lets you try for free.
I use ultrasurf.us. It’s free and works pretty well(especially for free).
