Checking Traffic Fines

I was wondering how I can check whether I have and unpaid traffice fines that I might not know of. Last year when I went to get my license renewed I told that I had an unpaid speeding ticket I was unaware of. They said they sent it to me half a year ago, but I never got it. So is there a way to find this information out, so that I won’t have any trouble renewing my license this year.

Did you have trouble renewing your license last year? I thought you only had to pay the fine. All my letters (tickets) from the DMV have to be signed for or they are returned after 14 days. I suggest you check your mailbox more carefully and make sure the DMV has your correct mailing address.

A parking ticket failed to reach me once (not sure why – my address was correct on all documents). It was OK – I paid the fine a few months later when I renewed the bike registration. Only a few hundred NT anyway.

If you’re concerned about it then why not take your registration card and licence to the DMV and check?

Just to clarify my address is correct and I do check my mailbox carefully. They only send you the ones they catch on camera. The ones they stick on your bike sometimes fall off and you will never know about them. My Taiwanese friends say that some people will purposely take the parking tickets off other bikes and stick it on their illegally parked bike. This way cops just walk right past, thinking that their illegally parked bike has already been ticketed. The poor guy who was first ticketed and had his ticket taken off ends up getting 2 tickets, one that he/she is unaware of. Anyway, I ask around and found the website.

Just type in your ARC ID number, birthday (year must be in Taiwanese years) and area. Hit confirm it will show whether you have any unpaid or unknown traffic tickets under your name.

That’s a useful link. Thanks, KR. That website also has a kind of highway code with the main traffic rules and laws. English version here;
mvdis.gov.tw/mvdis_en/DriversGuideEn.htm

That’s a great website. I tried entering my info, and it showed zero items on record. However, I tried a made up another ID number and birthdate, and it showed the same thing, i.e. zero violations.

How do you know for sure that it’s working, unless of course, it shows tickets that you know you should have?

If you really want to know for sure, I think we should still do what Joesax suggested by going to the DMV and checking in person. I heard awhile back that they won’t let you leave the country if you have a large number of outstanding fines. I’m not sure if this is still true or not. Anybody ever experienced this?

In the English rules I mentioned above, it says that if you don’t pay fines for an extended period of time, your driving license and vehicle registration will be suspended! Has anybody heard of this actually happening?

I suppose it makes sense to go to the DMV every 6 months or so and check, if you’re the cautious type.

I seem to remember someone posting here a telephone number you could ring to find out if there were any fines on the vehicle?

Thanks for the website…
I didn’t know they issued parking tickets on the spot. The only parking ticket I got was mailed to me (yes, it had a photo of my illegally parked scooter). What was attached to my scooter was a notification that I would be receiving a ticket in the mail later.
