Letâs hope so. As has been said often, Taiwan is losing the old people that enable their children and family. As they die off, the psychos are left to âroam the streetsâ (meaning, no handlers anymore)= more and more (due to fuck all meaningful social services here) and these stories will get reported on more as time goes on and the elders disappear.
These issues are also the governmentsâ intentionally ignoring responsibility and offering next to nothing in terms of both justice as well as social safety nets for people. Societal fail, 110%. The save face and conservative culture here has only enabled these issues, not tackled them.

I donât know if you ever watched Shameless, yeah, just a TV show, I know⌠but there were some crazy episodes when the kids went to foster care. Like one forcing the kids to make crafts and rewarding them with White Castle, and the one couple doing it just for the money.
Child Protective services, Albany, NY. Or DCYF for the official types. And yeah, there are stories. Mostly terrible, but I wasnât in Foster Care, which was a bit tamer, but had serious issues, a lot of incest for some reason.

My wife was once a social worker in Taipei. She could only take a few years at the job because she was powerless. She specialized in high-risk families where drugs, abuse and sexual assault are the norm. She would be required to enter these residences with zero protection or the help of law enforcement. Some of them were so bad that I would drive her and wait outside during some of her more dangerous cases.
The lack of government assistance and the lengths they take to cover up serious cases of all types of child abuse forced her to quit the job she loved. To this day she is still in contact with some of the kids involved, and has started sending in resumes Stateside for similar employment.

Itâs a sad, tiring, dangerous job here. And as you say, nearly zero official help. The government, even many families, covering stuff up is why the lions share have to quit before suicide starts sounding like a good idea.

Itâs the same there but the level of support is far better. If we needed cops we got cops. If we needed the fire company to shut off the gas they did. And lawyers up the yin yang.
Good luck! Itâs a thankless job but those can be the most rewarding. I worked on a child trafficking case and while we didnât exactly âwin,â we put the fear of god in a pair of shitty despicable parents.
