China Pa on Anhe Road

I like China Pa. Comfortable decor; nice couches in the lounge area in front of the stage; good, relaxed jazz. The food is slightly above average in quality, Chinese style. I like to go with a group of friends or with a date. Get a cigar (they have a good selection), dip it in some brandy, and you’re in for a couple of hours of cool, relaxed fun.

China Pa is on Anhe road, very close to Xinyi Road.

I second China Pa. Went there yesterday, and the food was pretty good. Service is pretty crappy, though I heard it is usually better than the night I went. Watch your head when you are upstairs.

I drove by this place the other day and decided to go inside and liked what I saw. Anyone eaten their? How is the music and which nite is the best.

I can’t believe it’s still there.
Unless something’s changed dramatically, it’s your typical local “Live House”, either an aging slapper crooning standards in really awful KMT-era Engrish backed by a bored Filipino combo, or a young pop singer wannabe throwing out Mandopop top 40 backed by a bored combo of local “jazz” players.
Menu nothing special but pricey.
Too bad, because it’s kind of a cool room.

I was there on the opening night, and once a few months ago. Seems nice, decent food and entertainment.

I was there a couple of months ago too. The Chief is spot on about the music (this time the aging slapper crooning in terrible English), but earlier in the evening before that guff started the food and the atmosphere were pretty good.

It looked to me to be perfect for some good smokey blues or jazz but Taiwanese can’t seem to get Blues Music and think it about bad luck.

Um. It mostly IS, isn’t it?

need I go on?

I take overseas visitors from work their often times. They seem to like the ‘old China’ feel to it. IMVHO the food is good (though pricey) but I find locals scoff at the food as it isn’t a carbon copy of everything else in this town, hence not ‘real Chinese.’

It would be awesome if good acts played there, but there is this one lady who sings opera tunes in Italian that is pretty good.
