It like 38 countries or something like that now. I’d be surprised if his wasn’t included. Not sure where the ā€˜refused entry’ worries stem from.

Canada UK and US passports not included…

That’s a big percentage of western foreigners on Forumosa @Anaptronym

There’s a really good Greek restaurant near one of the malls, but that was 10 years ago, so…

Yes I would definitely go to Gulangyu, but my flight is at 12:50, so not enough time. Will probably walk past the ferry pier and see it from the distance.

Yes, Xiamen Airlines. They fly in the late afternoon from Songshan to Xiamen. And the direct flight to Amsterdam is noon the next day.

I have a German passport and went to Shanghai last year without problems. But people have been denied entry into Beijing, see: ✈ šŸ‡ØšŸ‡³ Airlines | Air China - #7 by Wai

So, there is always the concern that they won’t let you exit the airport.

I will check this one out, thanks!

BTW, what a pain in the butt to find places, like hotels, tourist sites, and metro stations, with Google Maps or Baidu Maps. Google maps is excruciatingly slow and also inaccurate. The street view on Baidu sucks, if it is working at all.

Bing maps is actually great when it comes to showing metro stations. Never used Bing maps before, just found out.

Seems he misunderstood the transit rules. China is really quirky on this and change them at a moments notice. If you have the 30 day thing on your passport I wouldn’t worry.

Yea the interwebs in China generally does seem to be banjaxed, although no doubt this counts as little more than a trifling challenge for a seasoned picture quizzer such as yourself. Thanks for the Bing maps tip :+1:.

P.S. If you did settle on Marco Polo: At check in they tried to upsell me and take a deposit: I batted the attempts at supplementary money extraction away successfully, the only downside being that they made me wait until the official check in time to give me the room. Otherwise it was all good, I’d stay there again.

I am contemplating taking the Xiamen Airlines flight to Paris instead of Amsterdam now. That would give me more time for Xiamen, cause the flight leaves at midnight as opposed to noon. Gulangyu, here I come!

How did it go, was the airline OK? I just booked Taipei to Schiphol return with a 24 hour layover in Xiamen. Only 20,000 NT return.

Be careful. If it’s two airports in China it’s not counted as a ā€œlayoverā€ for the 24 hour transit visa.

It cannot be a transit from one city to another in China.

You will be denied at the first airport and sent back to Taiwan. (Unless your passport allows the 30 day visit)

I will take the flight in June. NT$20,000, how?

On the xiamen airlines website. I was kinda flexible with dates plus or minus a couple of weeks so just picked the cheapest.

I have visa free entry, so that’s not a worry.

China southern and Xiamen airlines have cheap flights with long layovers if you book months in advance.

I did not see that low prices on their website a few months ago. There has to be a catch. You mean exactly NT$20,000 or in the 20,000s, like 29,000?

Even without a visa, they would not send you back. You just have to spend the time in the airport, right?

The catch is you have a long layover and often sometimes you have to leave the airport and go to another for example I got return tickets to NZ with 2 checked in bags for 18,000 but had a 24 hour layover in Shanghai in which involved changing airports.

21,406 NT

If flying or transiting to another airport in China you would need to pass immigration which in that case… yes you would be refused and sent back.
