China's new carrots

To add to last year’s Pandas, China has now:

*liberalized tourism to Taiwan
*liberalized the medical profession
*allowed more fruit and vegetable imports

It will be very interesting to see if any of these measures have any tangible effect of Taiwan’s economy or society–especially if the tourists actually come (or are allowed to come) in any significant numbers.

I guess that will mean more Quack doctors and snake oil salesmen from the mainland and more hocked-up spit on the streets around tourist areas.

And more hocked-up spit at Sun Moon Lake, too. At least we can hope the spit gets caught in the wind and finds its way to land on the PRC flag flying proudly behind the tourboats.

See “Pleasure boats flying Chinese flags” at taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/ … 2003302941

Sure, the operator has removed his precious PRC flags, for now. With more PRC tourists, there will be more of this type of pandering to the point that with time, it becomes accepted and commonplace. Thank you, Grandpa Lien!

Next thing you know, Chairman Ma will have the ROC flags taken down at Taipei Arena. Oh wait; that already happened. Enjoy the ride down the slippery slope because you reap what you sow, KMT.

Is all this pandering just to disguise the KMT’s true intentions to somehow finally “recover the mainland?” Or, are they simply waving the white flag of surrender? Say, that could be Taiwan SAR’s flag, the white flag of surrender! Not cool.

Master Kang, you dare say the Nationalist Party is not very Nationalistic?

You mean the political group / government number 1 in Asia for losses in battles and world famous for losing an entire country? Famous for being the worlds richest party in a democracy to selling “shady property” to pay for their pensions? What makes you think they’re going to lose Taiwan to the CCP as well? If so wouldn’t they just lose everything for once and for all then?

Oh right… history often repeats itself.

They’re really a less phlegmy bunch these days. Quite incredible really.

If Taiwan really is part of China, shouldn’t all that have been a given? I mean, do they limit tourism to Guangzhou? Doctors in Jiangsu? The fruit and vegetable market in Shandong?

You must be getting a better class of tourist. Hasn’t HK sworn off the National Spitathon? I foresee a bit of a Taiwan-China Phlegm Race developing here. “Mr President, we cannot allow a Phlegm Gap!”
