is there a peace treaty ending the chinese civil war? if not, why doesn’t chen shui bien press for one?
from a PRC perspective i’d say the war’s still on lol
It would require negotiations from both sides. Something they are not willing to do just yet.

correction: something which the PRC is unwilling to do.
(oops forgot to put on the “just yet”)

We need to start up a thread for you guys titled: Circular arguments go here. That’s exactly how this is going to go.
Jive Turkey,
I resent the fact you are preventing me from my favorite pass time of circular arguments.

Not at all. I was actually suggesting that we dedicate a whole separate thread to that pasttime.
The ROC declared an end to hostilities in 1990 or 1991. Lee Teng Hui is such a villain…
While still sending spies to the mainland to this day. LTH definition of declaring unilaterally the civil war being over must be very unique.
unilaterally declaring an end to hostilites isn’t the same as signing a peace treaty. signing a peace treaty implies adherence to “rule of law” whereas unilateral fiats are something else.
Jesus, I wish ac_dirtbag and asscoaiated scum would piss off and leave a serious topic alone.
This was a seriopus post asking for serious information. You have nothing to contribute so fuck off. [Moderator, please feel free to Flame or Flounder this post, but not without first dextending the same treatment to ac_drivel’s board pollution].

Now back to the question at hand.
We all know that there was no peace treaty, but was there ever a formal ceasefire? I suspect there may have been one when the shooting around Jinmen stopped.
Also, I’ve always heard that LDH’s administration declared they were no longer aiming to reconquer China, or something to that effect, but does anyone know the details?
Brian
I doubt it. There is certainly no ceasefire line - When the Defense Minister said that Taiwan would attack any PRC plane which crossed the ‘middle line’ of the Taiwan strait he made it clear that this was not an explicitly agreed line: (from Taipei Times)
Apart from the fact that the coordinates he gave for the line were completely wrong (about 100km from where they should be ), him saying he had “no idea” what the PRC accepted didn’t fill me with confidence …

What happened in Jinmen back then was certainly interesting huh. UK and US went into a diplomatic frenzy, while the commies agrees to a temp cease fire.
“We want to give our compadres in Jinmen a chance to regroup and resupply themselves” they exclaimed.
Was it like, we only open fire on each other from Monday to Friday, but weekends and holidays are off-limits.
