Chinese Companies you may not know

If they have any amount of ownership linking to mainland China, list it here

In 2019, Tencent, the Chinese digital titan behind WeChat and League of Legends, invested $150 million in Reddit, raising concerns about censorship among Reddit users. While the platform is still owned by American company Advanced Publications, Chinese investors do have stakes in the company.

Tencent is 30% South African owned, but anyway, if that’s the rule then this thread Is pointless and endless. It only matters when they are majority owned by Chinese company

Oh? So is John Cena 51%+ owned by China, or…

then this thread Is pointless and endless

Perhaps endless, but not pointless. Their strategy is always long-term. Slide your foot in the door, then go for homerun later.

Yeah,no it’s not. You don’t know what you are talking about or how these companies operate or how the party operates. This thread is silly

Private companies in China are beholden to shareholders. They invest to make money. Then the party gets involved and fucks around, while the company still has to foot the bill.

Alibaba invested in so many companies (such as Lyft and Jet.com), these are just investments. It’s a private company trying to make profits.

It’s not the same as Tiktok where they can harvest data or where they can steal technology

Those are fancy words for so many minority shares where they force them to do things. This can be seen as easy as seeing Taiwan not listed as a country on their websites. They simply threaten to back out and take their money with them.

Another example: Before Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard: China, with only a 5% investment, puppeted them into disqualifying an esports winner because they said “save Hong Kong”, and even banned him for life + revoked his cash reward (a large amount, like $100k?). Despite the knowingly bad PR this would create (and it did create bad PR/protests), China (again, with their 5% minority share) still convinced them that this should happen.

If I wasn’t tired, I’d likely recall further events - although the John Cenna one above was another example.

If you believe that China has no control because they own minority shares, you are wrong.

They arent fancy words, thats actually how it works. These companies have to run as actual companies to make a profit. They are also forced to comply with anything the government wants.
