OK, so now that I’ve got Linux (Debian via Lindows) going, what I really need now is a Chinese/Chinese-English dictionary program. At the very least, an EDICT/CEDICT format compatible frontend. Anyone got any suggestions?
This is from the Debian unstable package list:
pydict (0.2.5.1-3.1) an English/Chinese Dictionary written with python/gtk
Under Debian (or Knoppix) the command to install would be:
apt-get install pydict
I’m not sure about Lindows, as I haven’t used it yet. It should work the same, but you’d need to have your /etc/apt/sources.list file pointed to the Debian server.
To get a complete list of Debian packages, go to this url:
You can choose to download a list for Stable, Testing or Unstable. The Unstable list is by far the longest and most up-to-date. It’s good to keep a copy of this list on your computer and then you can search it - that’s how I found out about pydict. I haven’t used pydict myself, so can’t tell you how good it is.
regards,
Robert
Thanks Robert. I’ve already set up apt to get packages from the unstable tree, and managed to get quite a few. I’ll give pydict a shot tomorrow.
