OK, not sure if this topic has been posted about before, but if so, my apologies in advance.
I’m curious about what the Chinese names are for common games played by children in the US and the West. For example:
Tag = 抓鬼 (catching the ghost)
Hide and Seek = 躲貓貓 (hiding cat)
Musical Chairs = 大風吹 (great wind blows)
Any others?
PS Anybody know why musical chairs is called 大風吹? I get the other two, but not this one.
The chinese version of Musical Chairs is slightly different. Originally it was played with 2 teams/sides that form a line facing each other with people spread out holding hands. The name actually comes from the rhyme they would chant as part of the game to “call over” certain people who fulfill a specific criteria (like those wearing red). Anyways, i would think the idea of swapping positions led to the adoption of this name for the more modern game of musical chairs.
