The reason why Chinese people use “gwei” in the language is that according to chinese myth, there are actual “ghosts”, one for every bad human character. The people who have these bad characters are cursed by these ghosts.

Any the “yang” in “yang gwei” mean ocean, since foreigners (mostly) came across the ocean. That’s why many western things have “yang” in them, such as “yang fang” (house) and “yang tsong” (onion), etc.

Can’t really blame the chinese for calling westerners “yang gwei” though, cuz remember when they first came into contact with white people, it was a long time ago. The westerners were big, hairy, rude, barbaric, ruthless, and all they did was steal stuff, destroy stuff, and kill people.
