Chinese New Year HihgSpeedTrain Tpe to Khh

according to my knowledge, 2010 CNY will start officially Monday, February 15th.

My parents are flying into Tpe Thursday 11th February. They want to stay in Tpe
a couple of days before coming down to Kaohsiung and they want with the Gaotie.
I could imagine it will get crazy already on the next day (which is friday) …

So, my question is, based on your experiences, when does it start to get overcrowded ?
Do Gaotie just sell as much tickets as available ? Keep in mind my parents are bit older, travel with alot of luggage, so even if it is just 1,5 hours, I don’t want to squeeze them into a train like the MRT trains. I will pick them up, but still …

Is it highly recommended to reserve tickets around this time of the year ? And if you bought a fixed train no, is it allowed to change for a later train ?
Thank you …

Yes you should reserve. In fact, I think the only way you can get on during holiday times is with a reserved ticket - they make the normal unreserved cars into reserved cars.

In theory you can change one train for a later or earlier train (I’ve done it at normal times) but it depends on seating availability. It might not be possible at CNY.
