Hi
FWIW
This may or may not be useful… there are always Chinese/ HK movie posters on Ebay for sale… ranging from the 50’s to now… some are very cheap, others are collectors prices.
Back in The UK, I bought a few 60’s/70’s kung fu posters when I was feeling a bit flash.
I don’t know about here in Taipei, but if you’re going to Hong Kong, you can find them in every second shop in the antique district along Hollywood Road, and I mean piles of them. Many of the shops also have old HK movie posters, and all that Chinese junk, with Mao’s red book, Mao badges, all that crap. They have a lot of really funny posters, mostly reprints, and we like to look around and maybe get one or two when we go there.
I bought some a few years back before they were valuable, movie posters from old Taiwanese movies are even more valuable and harder to come by. Try Ing Ge the “Ceramic City” or the sidewalk market on Ba De behind the computer market.
I bought a stack of them last year in Sanxia on the old street. NT100 each. A shop had dozens of them, and many other curios like Mariyn Monroe lighters. Unfortunately, all the shops on the street have been relocated while renovations are being done. Maybe someone in Sanxia knows where they have gone to.
My friend told me at near Goungguan station, at Shuiyuan market’s back exit has a store sells it…it’s on the 2nd floor of a glasses watch wear store. :s
Thx everyone. I will try that GongGuan place next time I am there.
Went to the BaDe antique area today and bought a few. NT$200 each… may be a little overpriced but I like 'em!
Anyone have any idea on how legit the ‘antiques’ are over at the market? My wife took a shining to red leather on wood jewelry boxes. When I noticed that every shop had 2 or 3 identical boxes I become a little hesitant to buy them. Apparently they were wedding boxes so I suppose China would have heaps of them…
