Chinese Taipei baseball team not even in 2nd round (Olympics

Why do people in Taiwan think they have a world class baseball team, while at the recent Olympics, the could just win 3 out of the 7 games ?

I was pretty impressed that they held Japan to 0 runs until the 8th inning, and lost only in 10th inning overtime, as the team from Japan is a “Dream Team” comprised of the best of Japanese professional leagues, and is widely regarded as a pretty strong team. The loss to Italy I think was also a late in the game upset.

Their little league team has a 3-1 record in the World Series and they have advanced to the second round. They might just win it. Besides the US they have won it more than any other country in the world.

Was pretty bad that Taiwan lost to Italy in the Olympics. They were supposed to win that one. I think they should have beaten Canada too and they almost beat Japan. Just bad luck huh? They beat Australia though and I can’t see how Oz made it to the Gold Medal match.

Hey GLM, why does the USA think they have world class baseball teams? They didn’t even make it to the Olympics! They got eliminated by Mexico which didn’t even make it to the Olympics. You know in sports that you win some and you lose some.

btw to the moderator, there is a thread on tw at the olympics in the sports forum that these posts above could be placed in…

Impressed with the Japan game? Well, the coaching by Taiwan was atrocious. Two out in the top of the ninth with a man on second with the score tied…and he gets picked off second?
That is shithouse coaching pure and simple.
And the homer that lost it was a brick tossed up when the pitching coach should have instructed each pitch to be low and away.
Basically the Taiwan side didn’t field a very good team, but the coaching was particularly outstanding in it ineptitude.

I actually was wondering why they picked the coach that they did. In recent years, the team he has been coaching hasn’t done all that well in the Taiwanese leagues.

they picked him for three reasons; guanxi, guanxi and, um, guanxi…

i particularly liked the fly-foul ball in the jap. game when the 2nd base came running over and tried to take it out of 1st bases glove; result ball spilled. how very taiwanese that was!
