Chinese 'takes more brainpower'

BBC: Speaking Chinese may take more brainpower than speaking English, a study suggests.

Guardian:
The Chinese need both sides of the brain to grapple with challenges of Mandarin, but English speakers listen with only half their minds on the job.

Well that explains why I don’t do tones.

Why, do you not have a right brain :?: Sorry …

Have enough trouble using one side at any given time let alone two.

But you might be right; there’s a strange rattle when I shake my head.

HG

When I use my brain, I don’t even think about it anymore.

(This allows me to make bad jokes with minimal effort…)

But as far as the article is concerned, it’s amazing that some people get paid to discover that when you speak a tonal language, you use the part of your brain that processes tones!
