Chocolie - Don't waste your money and time

If you like chocolate…stay away from this sorry excuse for a restaurant/cafe.

The wife and I went last night after dinner to try some of what they have to offer.
The place was a let down. Way over priced. 140 NT for a cup of hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was not sweet at all. Very bitter. I had the “Aztec Chocolate” which was just bitter hot chocolate with a ton of cinnamon in it. Way too spicy. I didnt finish mine and left with an uneasy stomach. Took 15 minutes just to get the hot chocolate delivered to our table.

As for their menu selection…pathetic. This place boasts about being a chocolate lovers paradise. HA! Hardly. Their menu had hot chocolate - 4 different kinds, 1 type of chocolate milk shake. A couple different coffees with a bit of chocolate in them. And a chocolate sundae. That was it as far as chocolate items go. The rest was mundane coffee shop snacks.

Don’t waste your time with this place.

That actually sounds interesting. I have always wanted to taste something like that; remember Juliette Binoche’s shop in ‘Chocolat’? I hate sweet food (I know, I know, those of you who have met me, but sugar isn’t the cause…) and commercially made hot chocolate makes me chuck.

I hate ‘coffee shop’ food, here. How does Starbucks and most of the other places get away with the shit they sell?

Any chance of an address so I can check out the bitter chocolate? Was it just not to your taste, or was it just gross?

I’ve been there and I concur with Quarters… not that great. Its somewhere just off Yongkang Street

Real hot chocolate is not supposed to be sweetened. It’s extremely bitter, very dark and very thick and gloopy. You take it from tiny espresso cups. Aztec chocolate is supposed to be very heavily spiced with cinnamon.
I only had it once in some famous chocolate shop in Paris. It was not at all what I expected and I didn’t like it, either. Cost a bloody fortune, as well.
My wife’s been to the one off Yungkang St. and said the hot chocolate was not as “good” as the stuff in Paris but not too far off the mark.

The Aztecs invented hot chocolate you know. That doesn’t mean they were good at making it.

This fact comes from my brain.

The name says it all … choco - lie

If they want to be a ‘chocolate lovers’ paradise or want to present themselfs as a chocolate place they have to have some real dishes, desserts, snacks, drinks (a full menu) made with quality origin chocolate and not just some fake-copy stuff … and as I can see these would be chocolate places are popping up all over Taipei, trying to cash in on a new fad … and they have ablosute no idea what chocolate is about

Shame on you to torture your lovely wife with a trip to that horrible city!

It was she who took me, of course. Not the other way around. As IF! I made sure she knew EXACTLY what kind of place she was taking us to, though.

I deeply apologize and I am Sorry for accusing you of any wrong doing!
