does this mean we will get more channel options here in Taiwan? 
The news report seems to suggest that if nothing else, it’s the end for analogue cable TV in Taiwan, although that said, the cable operators could of course still broadcast the signal from their end over analogue, which would suck, but hey.
More channels, most likely not, despite the fact that modern digital broadcast satellite should be able to transmit at least twice as many channels, somewhat depending on the compression ratio used.
We’ll see soon enough what changes, but it could either be a good or a bad thing, as if they do what Sky in the UK has done, then some channels might end up looking worse than they do today. On the other hand, more premium channels should hopefully look much better and offer better quality sound.
