I wondered what was missing in the bars of Taipei, and then it struck me. CIDER !
Is it available in Taiwan?
Bobwundaye has ciders. www.bobwundaye.com or the thread in this forum
English cider is not available anywhere.
Jason’s supermarket in 101 had / have some American stuff, but a fellow cider lover tells me it was pretty awful. American cider is totally different to English cider, so depends which one you like. The American stuff is much more like apple juice. Someone please import some Strongbow / Scrumpy Jack / anything…pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaassssssseeeeeee! :bravo:
To be fair, it’s only awful if you’re expecting something like a “real” British or Normandy cider.
The stuff (American) they sell at Bobwundaye is actually a really nice drink for a hot day, but “it’s cider, captain, but not as we know it.”
I await the TavernCaptain’s contribution…
I second the vote on the Strongbow. It is one of my fondest memories of London and is a great warm-up before Absinthe.
As moderator, I must tell you: you need help. ![]()
maybe some of Taiwan’s esteemed bar owners can shed some light on why decent cider (eg Strongbow) is not available in Taiwan.
It’s widely available in HK, both on tap in bars and bottles in supermarkets. Surely someone can haul some from HK to here.
I for one would become an instant regular at any cider selling bar, and I know others who are the same. Not sure about the Absinthe chasers though!!!
Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me!
Well, if they do get the cider. I will bring the Absinthe, you will see that like that a Strongbow followed by a glass or two or three of Absinthe is a nice way to spend an evening talking. Most of the major Czech and Spanish brands do ship to Taiwan.
Ted, what are you fishing for? What I know about Cider is that a long, long, long time ago a young, hansome and very energetic Bar Owner imported a couple of pallets of Strongbow Cider. Even this chap’s company is holding a license that qualifies to import alcohol, he was foolish enough to declare it as apple juice, customs found out about and that is why there is to date no cider available at the Tavern Premier but that could of course change in the fairly near future.Cheers!
Do you know the way to the Garden Party?
young, handsome & energetic bar owner??? I thought it was Michel at the Tavern!
EH!! ![]()
Jasons in the 101 building has Strongbow cider on order and will be passing customs this week. The Tavern in Taipei & The Londoner in Taichung intend to stock it by the end of this month.
Have tried a sample bottle and I can recommend it.
cheers. Paul.
Graham (or possibly “Graeme”) at Tapas was making noises the other week about importing some cider. He was talking about scrumpy or some kind of natural West Country still cider. Laughing juice in other words. I would like that very much. Scrumpy by the demi-john. Followed by absinthe, casualty, and intensive care.
Strongbow, sounds good. Still cider, nice. So hexuan, do you prefer French/Swiss recipe (La Fee Verte from London), Spanish (Mari Mayans from Ibiza), or Czech (King of spirits or Sebor) Absinthe? Have them all. (Plus a few more).
Just to let you all know, Jason’s in Tianmu (probably 101 also) has cider now. Here is the pertinent info:
Strongbow 375 ml - Sweet, Original, and Dry
69 NT /bottle
bottled NSW Australia
Ace - various kinds of cider pear, apple
99 NT/bottle
