Anyone stayed here? A friend told me that it’s solely for the use of transfer passengers, but that can’t be the case, surely?
Trying to get some details on the web. Their site seems to be down right now. ckshotel.com.tw/
It’s listed in the old Lonely Planets, but due to the (understandable) decision of the authors to leave Taoyuan out of the new one, it’s not listed there.
The reason for choosing this one is that my mum will have an early flight out, and she gets tired easily so reducing journey time this end would be good.
I put my business partner in there a year ago because he got in at midnight. He was really upset the next day and wanted to know why I had it in for him. He’s a 5 star sort of guy.
That hotel is okay but tends toward the dank and dingy in the lobby area. Typical no view or light sense architecture that could be changing in Taiwan?
Simple answer. It’'s okay as HGC says, but, I’d not put my mum (mom) there unless desperate.
The best hotel that is within 20 mins of the Airport, is the the Monarch Plaza Hotel in Taoyuan.
I have stayed there, and it is really nice. Too bad about the location, but it is better than being stuck at the airport.
It’s where all the aircrew stay too - say no more.
The Monarch Plaza looks great but pricey. How much did you pay, Truant?
My mum and I would love to be “5-star kind of guys” but we aren’t, and as it’s just one night I don’t think she’d have a problem with CKS. Was booking straightforward, Ironman?

I can’t remember exactly, but I think it was 2000-3000 a night, depending on the type of room.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Any guesstimates for the cost of a 20 minute taxi ride from there to the airport? Shouldn’t be more than a few hundred, surely.

I know that hotel. It is right by my apartment in Taoyuan. Just down the road is a cool little tea house, and a great vegetarian buffet.
The CKS Airport hotel is closed, and has been that for a few months at least.
I needed to put someone up this June and called around to get the number. I ended up calliing the airport itself, which broke me the news.
If you want to stay there, bringing an axe for opening the entrance door might be a good idea.
That makes sense. It looked like it needed a refit really badly.
As this subject has come up before I was looking on the way to the airport. No success with names but there are definitely places heading back toward Chung Li off that road that goes past Metrowalk.
Metrowalk is a reasonable shopping centre with Starbucks and TGI Friday cinemas and food court that is only 15-20 minutes from the airport. Also, you can do the run along that roadwihout hitting the traffic snarls then the last part is a short freeway run.
Conclusion. If we could find somewhere okay say 1,000nt near metrowalk then people could get food entertainment not far from the airport.
i’m looking from the South of course. Maybe north heading in there are options as well.
I’m going to phone up that Monarch Plaza place today. If not too outrageously expensive then I’ll go for that. Just want hassle-free, reliable booking and a reasonable place for mum to relax before her flight back. She gets tired pretty easily so I don’t think she’ll want to go out for food or entertainment. But that Monarch place looks as if it has a few amenities so should do the job.
