CNY 2012 Travelling with Dogs question?!?!?!

hi. i have two puppies. they are quite a large breed, but now they are very small. we want to camp in kenting over chinese new year, but have no idea how to get there. we can’t take the high speed rail because they are too big. any ideas?

rent a car

no license

You can take the the slow train (TRA). The dogs will need to be in a cage. It takes 5 - 6 hours.

Um, where exactly are you? If you are in Kaoshioung, you can probably walk there. If in Moscow, however, you may need to take a ferry.

Yilan. Slow train doesn’t get us all the way there. A bus after that would, does anyone know the company

Since when has that been an issue on the Wan?

To rent a car you need a license and a credit card. Do not need to be local, though.

an interantional license will work to rent at most places. the number of things i have done with my international divers license and a fake student card printed off my computer is jsut amazing.

If you don’t have an intl license, im happy to send you mine

you ar eright, train doesnt got to kenting, i think the closest is henchuan. there are many buses that go to and from kenting-henchuan,so taxis. probably too far to walk for most. taxis as well.

I have never tried, but i see s ltos of dogs get on city buses no issue, cant say if you have a real dog or not though.

as i can see you are kind of new to Taiwan… so i have a question for you, is this the first time you go camping in CNY to Kenting? have you booked the tent space on the camping ground? the place will be packed… like really packed… so if you are getting into all this trouble to get there with your pups at least make sure you have a spot to camp that is available… and book it !!!

I’ve been here for two years. Last year, I camped there and the beaches were empty. No one gave a crap about us camping without a permit. I have two dogs this year, hence the question. My international license is expired and last time I tried renting a car, I had three companies refuse. I think we’ll take the slow train and a taxi. If it works, I’ll update the thread for more dog travellers.

Where in Kenting did you camp on the beach? I take it you mean wild camping and not at a site. This is usually frowned upon by the park authorities and the police.

Btw, you can usually apply for a new international drivers permit (not license) from anywhere in the world.
