Do any of the banks in Taiwan have a machine which can sort the various denominations of NTD coins? Of course all of the banks have a machine which can count coins, but in all the banks I’ve been to you have to first sort the coins by hand, which can be very tedious if you have a few large buckets full of coins (like me).
Actually, I’ve heard that one bus company has such a machine, but it seems unlikely that they would allow an outsider to use it.
I don’t know about coin counting machines, but if you are counting by hand you should get one of those coin racks available in most stationery stores here. The rack will have slots for 50 or 10 coins of each denomination, so you can just put the coins into the rack and bag them up in groups of 50 for easy counting. It’s still a pita to count, but it’s much faster and more accurate than hand counting.
The Bank of Taiwan branch on Chong Qing S. Rd, Sec. 1 (on the corner of Baoqing Rd) (near southwest corner of 228 Park and across the street from the Presidential Palace) had a huge coin counting machine. I used it several times, even without having an account there or being charged anything. I don’t know if it’s still in operation, but it’s worth checking out.
