Cold snap kills off zoo animals

I was saddened to read that the cold has killed some valuable animals at the zoo. OF all places a zoo should be expert at taking care of animals. And if its cold the animals that normally would not be able to handle it should be kept inside their quarters as much as possible and given plenty of needed heat. I was saddened to learn a leopard died at the Taipei Zoo. Then read that , at least he was 21 years old and already in frail health. So at least he lived out a long life . But what about the tortoises who can live hundreds of years and the iguanas. How hard is it to keep iguanas indoors and in an heated environment?? The zoos have to be EXPERT at keeping animals

Cold, my arse. What a heap of steaming bullshit! Leopards live on the African savannah, where temps can drop far lower than 10 degrees or whatever at night.
21 for a leopard is fucking Methuselah. It died of old age, but of course Taiwan’s media isn’t going let the mundane get in the way of a good story.
Stupid twats.

Are the polar bears and penguins okay?

HG

Good to hear Sandman !!! And actually , you have to admit it does make for a good story? Fooled me !!

But what bout the tortoises? Seems they were in bad health from poor care. And thats not right. And iguanas should be indoors shouldnt they?

Taipei zoo has penguins but no polar bears. IN the summertime the penguins have a indoors chilled room to survive in. But I think the polar bears will just die in the summer Taiwan heat.

I don’t know if they have added the following later but here is what it says now:

Did they sell them to the local restaurant afterwards?

Not in Taipei, but if your appetitie turns to lion, elephant or giraffe, you can always pop down to the Night Safari Park and resort in Chiang Mai. A Thaksin project.
CHIANG MAI SAFARI: Rare animals on the menu at zoo
Visitors offered daily buffet of lion, tiger, elephant and giraffe meat; conservation groups outraged. Lovers of “wild” cuisine are in for a treat when Chiang Mai’s Night Safari opens next year, project director Plodprasop Suraswadi said yesterday. Visitors to the park’s Vareekunchorn restaurant will have the option of tucking in to an “Exotic Buffet” of tiger, lion, elephant and giraffe, for just Bt4,500 a head.
Working for the Chinky dollar.

Don’t see the point in having zoos anyway but don’t let me get on my :soapbox:

Well Nama, soon the only place you’ll be able to see certain animals are in a zoo…and there are cases that animals in zoos have been able to repopulate a species where if there hadn’t been a zoo, they’d be extinct.

:beatnik: (one way to keep my mouth shut)

there there nama, dont let tycoon make a monkey out of you …fight back?? (even if he IS right)

They’re actually suffering in the rooms with heaters.

dude, they Cant be that dumb? Can they??

Penguins NEED ICE not heaters. And there aint no polar bears in the TAiwanese zoos last I checked. Unless one of the American Brown bears got so old its looking almost white? And those bears dont need heaters either if they are from Norte America?

You know I’m black and could read that in several different ways, right?

NamaX:beatnik:

uh, I think you are reading something into this that isnt there? I was encouraging you to fight stronger AGAINST the idea of zoos and to point out where zoos go wrong?

the phrase is applicable to all races.
