College TRANSCRIPT/DIPLOMA question

Hi guys. So I am applying for a University here in Taiwan. I graduated from high school 2 years ago, and have been studying Mandarin ever since. Now I would like to attend a university in Taiwan, but had a few questions. I had my Dad go to my school to pick up my high school transcript and diploma for me. But I heard you needed it “stamped” from the American ‘something’ and then get it stamped from ‘taiwan’, Is it possible I could get the stamps at the AIT in taiwan? Because I am already in Taiwan, and don’t plan on going back to the states cause that would be a hassle. Any information would be greatly appreciated~

dunno if this helps but …

when i did my MA here, a sealed envelope with undergrad transcripts and a copy of my BA was all they needed.

try to get a clear answer of exactly what you need from the school you’re applying to. they likely won’t know, but if you stress that finding out will save them similar hassles in the future (for other inter’l students such as yourself) you MAY be able to get some information.

i think the requirements for masters is different then undergrad… UGHHHHhhHhhHhhh

You can always do it by FedEx. Expensive, but not nearly as expensive as flying back.

…?

…?

OK, explanation.
You don’t “hear” what is needed; you go to the Foreign Student Office at the university you’re applying to and find out. Preferably in writing. Then you FedEx your diploma to the appropriate locations and obtain the necessary stamps.

Could I get it done at the AIT?

I very much doubt you’ll need to deal with AIT about this. What you’ll probably need to do is send your diploma and a copy (or perhaps two copies) to the Taiwan office located in or near the city of your school in the United States. You’ll probably have to pay a little money (maybe US$10 or so) to have them “authenticated” by that office. Then probably you’ll have to give the authenticated documents to your school in Taiwan, which may or may not help you handle further processing with the Ministry of Education. Probably.

But to know for sure, you need to do what Ironlady already said: ask the people in the foreign student office at the university you’re applying to.

thanks

It’s free to send an email or call AIT. But when you do so, you’ll find that they cannot do the stamping thing because they don’t check on the schools. The only place that can do that is the Taiwan TECO office that covers the area where your high school was located. You can get your Dad or another person to be a representative for you. You might find that it’s not easy to get the deal done through the TECO office, but Skype was the cheapest way to coordinate it.

It’s best if someone stateside can deal with it for you, because there are matters like “personal checks” and “self-addressed stamped envelopes” that make the entire transaction much easier. You can get them mailed to someone in the US who can check that they are right before sending them to Taiwan.
