Community Colleges in Taiwan

Hi everyone,

I’m moving to Taiwan in the several months, and I have a question regarding educational opportunities there:

Are there institutions – similar to community colleges in the U.S. – where calculus, chemistry, and the like can be taken? (I’m aware they will be taught in Chinese.)

Side note: the reason I want to take these courses is in order to fulfill prerequisites for additional postgraduate work in the U.S., so a bu3xi2ban1 is not an option – but whether or not a Taiwanese equivalent to a U.S. C.C. is recognized is another question.

Thanks
LP

There is something here called “community” university, but it’s more of a community adult education program in which people can take courses for personal development for no official credit.

There are vocational and technical schools, but I don’t think they would transfer credits, even if they would allow you to take courses. Universities might have these classes you want, but I’m not sure if they would transfer credits. You could probably take the courses you wanted in a university, but that would be for the experience only.

Why dont you try university of phoenix online? they are accredited in the US so the credits can be transferred. Taiwanese degree are not recognized anywhere else but Taiwan so I highly doubt any of the credits will transfer…

not true.

Degress from Taiwan universities are accepted in the USA and other countries. Hundreds of my former students have been accepted to graduate schools in the USA, Australia, and the UK. On the other hand, a degree from the online University of Phoenix might not be accepted anywhere. If you do choose an online or distance-learning program, pick one from a university that is accredited.

university of phoenix is fully accredited and they have physical campuses in phoenix and throughout the USA. Students there can take classes in residence or online. That’s why I did not do any other online colleges because they might not be accredited.

however, from the OP’s perspective, online schooling would not be useful at all in terms of attaining employment in a university here, as online degrees are not recognized in the ROC …
