The Wonder Girls song has an English version…it is so annoying though. That was the one song people kept playing at parties and weiya this year.
Hellfire! Now I know who was responsible for that rampant nonsense for the first six months of this year. A Korean girl band, I should have known.
MT, I recently perpetrated karaoke at a work dinner, much to my reluctance. Surveying the depressingly limited range of English songs (spanning the years all the way from 1850 to 1980), I chose ‘Sailing’, and managed to persuade one of my more personable female colleagues to accompany me. May Rob Stewart have mercy on my soul. While I’m in confession mode, I will admit to having sung 愛的抱抱 (not for the fainthearted, be warned), at another company evening earlier this year. This, however, has been the full extent of my corporate karaoke career in Taiwan.
Croon being high falsetto. SCOM is a great song and could be fun if sufficiently drunk to sing like a girl.
According to AskMen.com, the top 10 karaoke songs for men include something by AC/DC (maybe), “Can’t Get no Satisfaction” (could work), “Sweet Home Alabama” (but isn’t that like 20 minutes long) and Journey “Don’t Stop Believing” :roflmao:
Lissen, mate, the EASIEST song by far to do at a KTV is “White Wedding”. I always choose it as my first, to warm my voice up, so to speak. Another easy one to sing, and crowd favorite is “American Pie”. “Losing my Religion” is a sure-fire winner, too.
Great songs, Jimi. American Pie’s pretty long, though, isn’t it? White Wedding sounds like a winner.
Good point. I’ve only sung karaoke once in my life (in Myanmar) so I have no idea how many English songs they’ll have to choose from. I assume many of those mentioned in this thread won’t be available?

The three I mentioned are ALWAYS available in Taiwan. As is “Hotel California”.
Nothing slow, nothing with too many words, nothing romantic heartfelt. Go for the screamers.
Beatles? yes, maybe, not the good ones.
David Bowie? Billy Idol? Journey? You guys are trippin’ … nobody here has even heard such good stuff, least of all in karaoke version. All you can find here -accompanied by landscapes I suppose are New Zealand or Australia - are songs from teh 50’s, Moon River being a must -which i why I reccomend stay away from ballads… Carpenters, not even Bee gees… Occassionally you will find a couple of weird things that somehow slip through the cracks… but don’t expect miracles.
Imagine trying to do this in Spanish. They only have Besame mucho.
As to Chinese songs, there is one my dearly departed friend liked to perform: Tuei mien de nui hai kan guo lai, kan guo lai, kan guo lai… 對面的女孩看過來 by Richie 任賢齊 -the Taiwanese guy who became a very good actually actor in Hong Kong movies. It’s a fun song, easy easy. Fast paced. Like A-mei’s songs, easy to sing. Catchy.
I wonder if you could find any David Bowie at the KTV.
We are the Champion is good as now the World Cup match is hot.
But “Sorry Sorry” by Super Junior, another Korean band is still a hit in the KTV. You can also practice the dance with friends in advance to entertain the colleagues on that day!
Have fun in KTV!
MT c’mon, you’re a furriner and all, just sing that nobady nobady but youuuu and guess what?? everybody will chime in and do the shimmy thing and you really won’t be singing alone!
Kung Fu Fighting
I did this at one of those company KTV things. I never had to do anything else!
Depends on how receptive they are to the “funky Chinamen” lyric!

Ow. Ow. Ow.
Can i have my three minutes back? That was just terrible.
MT, do NOT request that song. People will be looking for your testicles on the floor, thinking that you must have momentarily lost them.
