Compressed air

Preferably in a can … with a nozzle.

For cleaning my disgusting keyboard. I’m such a slob!

Cheers.

A) Turn your key board upside down and shake it/bang on it. This usually gets most of the crap out.

B) Take a blowdryer and blow your keyboard(don’t imagine it’d do you much good though).

C) Use your vaccum cleaner on the keyboard. This will probably be the least messy/time consuming way. Some vaccum cleaners also have a blow function. So you can blow then suck or suck then blow or…um. Whatever.

D) Pop all your keys off and soak them in warm water and soap. Wipe the filthy, empty keyboard with a damp cloth. This is what I like to do when I have too much time.

E)Toss it and get a new one.

I’d recomment method D if your keyboard is filthy due to the reason shown upon your avatar. And perhaps a liberal amount of bleach too.

I bought mine at Daiichi (sp). 3C also has it. These are computer stores. Both have the big yellow signs out front. I see one at Heping and Roosevelt and many others also. It’s not too hard to find. Really though, tossing the keyboard is probably the best idea. I have used the Watson variety Q-Tips, alcohol (vodka in my case) and the spray can. It helps but doesn’t do a 100% job.
Several years ago, I had just purchased a new HP PC with proprietary keyboard. While setting it up I managed to spill part of glass of red wine directly onto the keyboard. I called customer Service to determine where I could buy just a new keyboard. I was a bit shocked over the advice. The Tech told me where I could get a keyboard but also suggested I try spraying the board down with the shower set to warm, hang it vertically to dry for a day or more, use a hair dryer on it for good measure, then give it a try. He said I would have about a 50-50 chance of it working. It worked. I guess if you plan on buying a new one anyway, it aint gonna hoit.

8 steps cleaning:

  1. Fill a bucket with water.
  2. Add some detergent and bleach.
  3. Unplug your keyboard.
  4. Throw your keyboard into the bucket.
  5. Rub it, scrub it, shake it.
  6. Hang it out to dry, preferably in the sun.
  7. Go to Kuang hwa computer market.
  8. Buy a new keyboard because they are dirt cheap and your old one is ruined because you soaked it in water and bleach … you moron.

:smiling_imp:

They sell those things at most computer markets (some shops that is, usually ones with the radio shack parts) but they cost so much a new keyboard cost the same!

Depending on how much air pressure you need you might be able to get away with a balloon :astonished:

Thanks for all your suggestions.

I’ll probably just ditch this thing and replace it with another el cheapo version.

Might give the hair dryer idea a go first, though.

Cheers.

Just saw an el cheapo wireless USB keyboard for under $500 at 3C.

But if you’re worried about being able to clean your keyboard, you might want to check out the $600 Virtually Indestructable Keyboard (VIK). It’s extremely quiet, portable, lightweight, cleanable and did I mention it’s virtually indestructable? I saw it on sale on Ba-Deh Road near the Gwang Hwa Computer Market.

If you want to actually pluck every single key out of your keyboard and wash them in soapy water then dry them in the sun, might I suggest you have a picture of where every single key goes before you pluck them out and make sure all the nooks and crannies are dry before you click them back on your keyboard.

Not that I’ve done something so silly before.

Wow. Those look awesome. I want to get one. Do you remember what the store looks like/where it actually is?

Actually, I think I’m more in the market for one of these:
