Computer freezing when trying to connect to internet

Last August whilst in Canada, my GF bought a brand new ACER Aspire… top of the line… model isn’t even carried in Taiwan.
About a month after we came back to Taiwan the motherboard kicked the shit. Had to wait a month because they had to order it from the states. Two months later the motherboard is fried again. This time the Acer repair center replaces it in 2 hours. Now, everything should be all hunkey-dorey, right? Nope. Trying to set up the internet connection for hinet… everytime you click “connect” the whole computer freezes.

ANY SUGGESTIONS!!! We are SO tired of going back and forth to Acer. How can a brand new computer crap out SO OFTEN!!!

Can I assume you’ve done the whole virus/spyware scan?

If so, how are you connecting to internet? Is it with a HiNet connection or something? If so, uninstall and re-install it (be sure you know your user name and password first).

we originally installed the hinet cd hinet gave us… was working up until the other night. so, i un-installed it and set it up manually through network connections. entered the correct user name and password. when you click on “connect” it has no problem going through “verifying your password” etc… but as soon as it gets to “registering your computer on the network” the whole computer freezes. I have no problem with my computer doing this. It’s strange.
Norton does a scan everyday i think and it always comes up clean.

Try the ADSL connection thingy built into windows, don’t use thingy hinet gave you. Someone gave detailed instructions in bobpine’s thread.

that’s what i did and the computer freezes
