Comuter game installation for dummies

my foster son just bought a computer game and i tried to plug in the cd and run it and nothing. i am not into games so i am completely illiterate. my computer is english only. i dont know if this might be the problem. the game is called “audition” and it is from seednet. 99nt at family mart. a cd is included which has “direct x 9.0” and i installed that and it still does nothing when i try to run the game.

does anybody know what i might be missing or doing wrong???

please help!

Could be many things.

No error messages or anything? Anything on the box about only being compatible with Windows 98, but you have Windows XP?

How are you trying to run the game?

It sounds like autorun isn’t starting up the CD. Press start and go to “my computer” then open the CD drive, that will either run it or show you what’s on the CD, there should be an application called “setup” or something similar, double click on that.

Oh yeah, I think I get it now.

DirectX is not the game itself, but rather some software to help it run well on your computer. You were right to install it, but that’s not all you need to do.

Follow the Fluffy One’s advice.

thank you for the suggestions! i’ve tried everything, but it still doesn’t work. i went to ‘my computer’ when i first got the game, and the computer recognizes the game that’s there, but when i double click to open the game file, nothing happens. when i go to take the cd out, it gives me an error message saying starting the application has failed…

maybe i’m missing some necessary drivers for games? i just plugged the disc into my friend’s laptop and it opened the file right away.

doh! i’m stuck.
