Anyone know where I can find decent sized condoms in Taiwan?

I have been working here on and of since 1998, and have bought a big supply of Austrlian condoms (Ansell) whenever I go home. But this really seems such a hassle, and I don’t plan going home so frequently in the future.

I have tried all the brands in the convenience stores, Watsons etc. But even the western brands (Durex etc.) are significantly smaller here than in the west.

I have tried asking at hospitals (The Adventist Hospital I think), but the doctor was no help whatsoever. The stupid prat actually laughed, suggested I ‘qing wo de nu peng you suan an quan shi’, and basically ignored me. I didn’t feel like pursuing the topic in my bad Chinese and with the nurse hovering.

What do the rest of you guys do?

Now I don’t want piss anyone off, or promote any of those stereotypes about guys with big noses. So for those with chips on their shoulders, no, I don’t bench 210lbs!

But I would really like to know where do get some decent condoms. . . Anyone seen Ansells here?

The only places I have seen that sell condoms are Watsons and convenient stores. If you are that desperate jump on the internet and order some using a credit card. However, beware that when they hit Taiwan they will probably call you or send you a letter because condoms are a controlled commodity in Taiwan which means you will have to pay duty on them.

There is a sex shop in Taibei on Taiyuan Road, just round the corner from Minsheng West Road. Taiyuan Road runs parallel to and mid-way between Chengde and Ningxia Roads in Datong District - i.e. it runs parallel with the Yuanhuan night market on Ningxia Road. There is a police station on the opposite corner. They do sell a variety of condoms - flavoured, knobby or whatever, and various other kinky things. I saw several sex shops in Taizhong. :sunglasses:

I have had the displeasure of trying an unknown, presumably local, brand condom before and suffered the least enjoyable experience ever. Since then we have stuck with the brands we know and trust namely Durex.
Can anyone recommend a local favourite that doesnt feel like an inner tube and doesn’t strangle me til I’m more purple than medically safe?

Why do you need a condom? Just do like I always do, pour a warm Coca-Cola on it and you’re all set. Coke will kill anything. :smiley:

Seriously, try to get someone to send you some from overseas. Local condom quality is poor and they’re just too damn small.

Love Story is good, but “hard” to find these days. Durex protects, but is like putting on a Wellington boot.
Between I think is OK too.

So should I stop buying the Durex they sell in Watson’s and switch to a local brand? Between and Love Story: do they feel better? are they still good quality?

I’m a regular poster but I’m using a new name for my entrepreneurial forays. I’ve noticed occassional complaints about not having enough Western condoms available in Taiwan. I am considering potentially filling this niche by shipping condoms to Taiwan for those in need.

  1. Is there a real demand for such a service?
  2. If shipping costs mean that larger purchases of 50-100 condoms at a time are more economical, would people be willing to buy in larger quantities? (maybe friends make purchases together)
  3. Does a 4-6 week lag time bother anyone if you can get the condoms you want?
  4. What brands and types are the most popular? A comprehensive list is below. In reality, I would only be able to offer a few different brands, not the entire comprehensive list.
  5. Are people accustomed to paying via paypal? What about credit cards? What about “hui qian” into a Taiwan bank account?

Am I forgetting any good questions to ask?
Please let me know how I can fulfill this need for Western condoms, if it truly exists.

I don’t really think there is a need for this. You can buy good quality condoms at every Watsons, Cosmed or 7-11 and the like and I remember having read an article on the usage of condoms in Asia. Taiwan was the country, where people use them the least.
