Contact lenses (prescription)

I’ve been hearing how contacts are half the price here vs the US but I checked a couple websites and they’re the exact same… About $60 for a box of Acuvue Oasys (2 week). Is Costco actually cheaper? Haven’t been over there yet (and don’t have a card). Also, I read you can buy prescription contacts without a prescription but I tried a pharmacy and all they had were colored lenses.

If prices were actually half, I’d switch to the Oasys One Day with Hydraluxe…

They are not half price here.

Glasses are cheaper here but contacts are about the same. The really cheap daily contacts you can get are bad quality and start hurting your eyes after like 10 hours in.

But yeah you just walk into a store and grab your eye power number if you know it. Carrefour has both color and clear lenses.

Buying eyewear at a pharmacy?

Damn, was hoping to upgrade to those high-class dailies. Yeah, I tried others and they feel like sand. Gotta look at the dk value. Most cheap dailies are like 30 and the Hydraluxe are like 120. A measure of air permeability

Where else would you expect to find them if there’s no prescription?..

Eyewear shop? Any will make you a pair as long as you got your eyesight numbers. Just make sure you get what you asked for, among the three shops where I bought my dailies one tried to sell me a different brand.

Oh when I said “prescription lenses” I meant contact lenses – that’s why I say the pharmacy only had colored ones :sunglasses:

Yup, that’s what I meant. I’m wearing daily contact lenses. When I was in Taiwan I went to a couple of eyewear shops, showed them the package of my old lenses with the prescription numbers on them, a few days later the shop got my lenses ready.

I get my Acuvue daily for a month $500 per box at whatever street side shop but ranges up to $700

How much would they be in US?

@tango42
Acuvue has more than one daily contact. Do you get the One Day Moist or the Oasys One Day With Hydraluxe?

Usually a three month supply of my regular biweekly Oasys is about $60 USD while a three month supply of the Hydraluxe dailies is like $125-$150

The Moist ones bother my eyes, and have a horrible dk/t value. Hydraluxe dkt is about the same as the biweeklies, maybe even a bit better

Do yourself a favor and get laser eye surgery. I used to wear daily, now I have perfect vision.

Costco is cheaper than other places in volume.

Contacts in smaller quantities are probably slightly more expensive here than the US (though about the same).
