Content Questions about Taiwanease Magazine

Taffy,
I’ve got some questions that I was going to PM you but I thought that they would be of interest to other folks so I decided to start this thread. I couldn’t find any details on the Taiwanease website.

  1. What kind of articles are you looking for (topics, target audience, length etc.)?
  2. Is Taiwanease going to be bilingual or soley in English?
  3. Will writers and photographers who contribute get any payment or is this just a non-profit community-style project?

Cheers,
John

Hi John, good questions.

  1. As regards length, we’re looking at short articles, ideally 400-900 words. Topics are a little difficult to specify until I’ve spoken with the writer her/himself and seen where their interests lie and where that can fit in with the overall (very loose) theme of each particular issue. The target audience is you, the unwashed masses (although we’ll be keeping the tone fairly mature, with apologies to TomHill). For the moment there won’t be purely fictional content, but humourous writing is good, and both light-hearted and weightier topics are fine with me. Articles should have some relation to Taiwan, whether living, travel, history, culture or the fine art of indoor shrimp fishing.

  2. English only for now. I don’t anticipate that changing anytime soon.

  3. This question is a little more involved. We do have a small budget for content that I have to use judiciously to get the best available quality for the magazine. But essentially, for featured content, the answer is yes, it is paid. Equally, some of our content (not including original writing) is from sources that are unpaid/working on a promotion-publicity basis. So all-in-all, it depends. If anyone is interested in contributing content, I suggest dropping me a PM to discuss the details.

Cheers

Taffy

Thanks Taffy,
Excellent. Nice to have us residents here as the target audience. Good luck with putting everything together.
