With Christmas coming up, I’d like to get some cookie cutters to make some Christmas cookies with my students. I’ve looked a bit, but it seems like the only cutters are heart-shaped. I’m looking for the regular Christmas shapes- Santa, snowman, Christmas tree, bell, etc… Any suggestions?
You could try the various baking supply stores (usually marked DIY 烘培 on the sign). See this thread.
I bought some of my cutters here, although that was long ago and I don’t recall whether they had good xmas ones:
DIY 烘培教室 (DIY hong1pei2 jiao4shi4)
on 研究院路一段96號 (Yan2jiu4yuan4 Rd. Sec. 1, #96), north of the Academia Sinica in Nangang too. From town, take 忠孝東路 Zhong1xiao4 E. Rd. east as far as it goes; turn right where it ends at Yanjiuyuan Rd., and you’ll see the store soon on the right. Ph. 2783-4843. Best deal in the store is the very strong extruded aluminum cookie cutters for only 12NT each!
I was just going to suggest the same. Here’s a good DIY baking store I’ve been to several times recently that definitely has christmas cookie cutters and lots of other baking stuff.
Thanks MT, I checked it out today. Here’s a clarification on the directions; you have to go just past the start of the upramp for the Minquan bridge (i.e., below the bridge).
As you’re driving East down Minquan (Minquan) E Rd towards Neihu, after passing the aquarium shops and crossing Fuyuan St. (the last before the bridge), instead of getting on the bridge, take the low road parallel to the bridge on the south side. Go a short block, just past a Bridgestone tire shop; turn right, and go about 50 meters, and the shop is on your left. 義興西點原料行 is the shop name; the address is 富錦街574巷2號 Fujin St., Lane 574, #2. Phone 2760-8115. Open 9a-9p; closed the 2nd and 4th Sun. of each month. The owner does speak a tiny bit of English in case you need to ask for something like baking powder.
As for curry, they have a Madras curry powder, yes. Their selection of baking stuff is very good, and most prices quite reasonable. Their 1 lb. of butter is cheaper than Welcome or RT Mart, for example, at 65 NT.
Correction: That should be Minquan bridge.
(It appears the baking supply store is in the same neighborhood as the Songshan Kendo dojo.)
Mod note: Thanks for the correction; I accidentally edited the correction into your post instead of mine at first, so I’ll just leave it corrected in yours too. -DB
Hands Tailung, 6th floor breeze center. They have cookie cutters in a wide variety of shapes.
Mami’s in Shida has some I think.
It’s in the alley with the internet cafe on the corner on Shida road- near the roosevelt road end. If you were coming from Roosevelt rd the alley would be on your right. Sorry I don’tt ahve the full address. The other way to find it wopuld be to walk through the night market on the street which runs parralell to Shida road walking away from Heping E rd. When it ‘runs out’ then you can only go left or right (there’sa little traffic islad thing) turn right abd mami’s is on your left.
