Coronavirus Open Thread 2021

Yeah boss man says we got training today why don’t I go in ?

I said what with a suspected
Case of COVID ? Our protocol says I must not go anywhere near the facility and I reminded him of that

When I’m well enough to venture out of the house I can go get a test
And if that is negative I am allowed to return to work
Otherwise 2 weeks mandated stay at home with pay

No that doesn’t mean I can take a little holiday
It means confined to house to make sure I don’t infect others

One thing weird about COVID not having fever is that most flu involved high fever why doesn’t COVID ?

Fever being the body natural reaction to infection and being of use to recover

If covid was man made they would want it to NOT trigger fever

Means longer recovery time and less chance to discover if someone was infected

I read that if covid is nature made it was very focused

Sounds like a difficult situation. Hope it all turns out ok.

Thanks I got a free test scheduled for tomorrow at a local pharmacy and results in 24 hours
The instant one I’m not doing because it costs 160 dollars and the company didn’t pay me back last time

And some say the instant one is not as accurate
I don’t know about that

We are starting to see the sharp v shape taking place across countries that thought they’ve had enough people vaccinated. Vietnam on the other hand is just shooting up along the 2 day doubling trend.

In the USA at the moment, 99.5% of COVID deaths are in the non-vaccinated population.

Put that another way: vaccination gives you a 200 times better chance of not dying from the CCP virus. Sure, you can still catch it, but the vaccination reduces your symptoms, makes you infective for less time, reduces viral load, and makes it a disease that the community can live with.

Bear in mind that the Delta variant of COVID has been recognised as the most infectious respiratory disease ever, with up to 1000 times more virus shedding from respiratory secretions than the original strain (which are what infects others, especially when morons don’t wear masks).

Any links to the raw data? I’ve been seeing figures in the 80% ballpark.

If this is true:

“with up to 1000 times more virus shedding from respiratory secretions”

then this:

“especially when morons don’t wear masks”

would seem akin to asserting that hiding behind a car door will protect you from a .50 BMG.

Would the first assertion (1000x higher rate of shedding) not suggest that, to a first approximation, the viral load inside your body is also 1000x higher, and that therefore your body has basically lost the battle and death will follow shortly? How does that square with the fact that Delta seems to be no more lethal than any of the other “variants”, and judging from death statistics is almost certainly less lethal?

Until the epsilon variant is announced, which no doubt will be reputed to evade the vaccine, and perhaps also mess with the space-time continuum.

Funny, I always thought of an “upgrade” as a good thing. I’m now thinking of it in terms of Microsoft releasing an “upgrade” to Windows, or the Dr Who Cybermen announcing “you will be upgraded”.

we did that already

The CFR among the vaccinated will be so low that it will make many countries stop caring once there is a high enough (>75%) full vaccination rate. Of course this is only considering the current set of variants…

Singapore is another example where there have been plenty of cases recently even with high vaccination rates (75% at least one dose, 50% fully vaccinated). But they haven’t had a single death among the fully vaccinated group for a long time.

According to the latest UK technical briefing, the current CFR of Delta is 0.2%. Alpha’s CFR is 1.9% and Beta’s CFR is 1.4%.

So no matter what I hear from any ‘news source,’ unless the actual data gives me reason for concern, I’ll remained unconcerned about Delta.

Getting vaccinated is the obviously smart thing to do.

Preliminary data shows 99.5% of COVID-related deaths in Texas were among unvaccinated people, according to the Department of State Health Services.

Of the 8,787 people who have died in Texas due to COVID-19 since early February, at least 43 were fully vaccinated, the Texas Department of State Health Services said.

That means 99.5% of people who died due to COVID-19 in Texas from Feb. 8 to July 14 were unvaccinated, while 0.5% were the result of “breakthrough infections,” which DSHS defines as people who contracted the virus two weeks after being fully vaccinnated.

… The quote I made was below the Singapore article… What I said is true for SGP so far.

The Delta CFR is low because it appeared after vaccinations reached a certain percentage. So of course it became lower. Alpha and Beta were around when much fewer people were vaccinated.

If you compare the CFR among the unvaccinated, it’s a different story altogether.

It was low before vaccinations, low after. They’re all low.

When the CFR for any of these variants is high enough for me to be concerned, then I will be. The chances of me getting Covid, getting sick from it or dying from it, are extremely low.

And what is that CFR? Or did I miss those stats on this thread?

I should have quoted all of your post. I meant it as an agreement that not getting vaccinated is a stupid risk to take.

Did someone already post this?

Hopefully it’s the horrible reporting that is causing the logic blocks here, poor Spock’s head would implode.

He said places where it is not possible to wear a mask all the time, such as coastal areas, beaches, water parks, will remain off-limits.

Why is it not possible to wear a mask all the time in those places? Besides the fact that soon you will be allowed to eat inside a restaurant during which activity it’s clearly impossible to wear a mask all the time…

However, he said that scuba diving will be allowed because "the whole body is tightly covered and the difference is that you are already wearing a mask when you go ashore.

“Tightly” covering the body now prevents covid transmission? Should we wrap ourselves in cling film? I don’t know about anyone else but anytime I’ve been scuba diving I take off the mask when going ashore…

When they are in the deep ocean, there is less possibility of cross-infections.

Please make it stop! :joy:  :joy:  :joy: :joy: :joy:

He said that activities such as surfing, paddling, and jet skiing can be engaged in as long as people maintain a social distance in the water and wear masks when they go ashore.

How do I engage in paddling if the costal areas and beaches remain off-limits? In my bath at home? If I need to wear a mask when I go ashore does that mean I don’t need to wear one when paddling? But I do when swimming? Oh sorry, no swimming…

Ok…
Which vaccine of any…

  • Highly allergic to fish
  • Accidentally at fish as part of a dish that had meat and perhaps dairy.

The next day, I had vegetarian pizza and it started and allergic storm. Hives, tight throat, went to emergency room.
Every animal protein started this reaction.

  • Was sent to an arthritis specialist at a big hospital. They said that I was hyper allergic to almost every animal protein and gave me some kind of Richmond that included hydroxychloroquine to reset my immune system.
Became a complete vegan for almost a year.
The threatened side effects freaked me out so I left that treatment and went to traditional Chinese medicine treatment which seem to have cured my overactive allergy problem.
Still allergic to fish, seafood, seaweed in which the doctor suspected maybe iodine. I needed an MRI but they refused because they did not want to give me the colored drink. Even though they had an emergency room they did not want to take a risk because someone had died from drinking the solution before.
Okay, what’s the best one for me?
Since I will be working with children I don’t think I could avoid it.
Remember you can only recommend to me if you would be willing to face the same risk yourself…

I’m starting to wonder if these guys really ought to be given some sort of test before they’re allowed to decide the fate of the nation. Something like this maybe:
