Summary
The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today (15th) that there were 21,270 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Taiwan, including 20,972 local cases and 298 imported cases; 31 new deaths among the confirmed cases.
According to the command center, 20,972 new local cases were added today, including 9,658 males, 11,299 females, and 15 cases under investigation. The age ranged from under 5 to over 90 years old. The cases were distributed in New Taipei City (4,242 cases), Taichung City (2,654 cases), Kaohsiung City (2,559 cases), Taoyuan City (2,314 cases), Taipei City (2,279 cases), Tainan City (1,618 cases), Changhua County (876 cases), Hsinchu County (630 cases), Hsinchu City (557 cases), Miaoli County (515 cases), Pingtung County (475 cases), Yunlin County (413 cases), Keelung City (371 cases), Yilan County (315 cases), Nantou County (273 cases), Chiayi County County (269 cases), Chiayi City (186 cases), Hualien County (166 cases), Taitung County (125 cases), Kinmen County (83 cases), Penghu County (40 cases), Lianjiang County (12 cases).
The command center pointed out that there were 31 local deaths today, including 18 males and 13 females, aged from their 50s to 90s. All had severe infections, 28 had a history of chronic diseases, 22 hadn’t received the recommended 3 or more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and 16 hadn’t received any doses at all. The date of diagnosis ranged from May 26 (2022) to January 10 (2023), and the date of death ranged from May 26 last year to January 11 this year, as detailed in the attachment of the press release.
According to the command center, among the 298 new imported cases today, 217 were males and 81 were females, ranging in age from less than 5 years old to over 70 years old. The entry date is between December 15 last year and January 14 this year.
According to the statistics of the command center, as of now, a total of 21,233,595 notifications related to the new type of coronavirus pneumonia in Taiwan (including 12,021,273 cases excluded), of which 9,209,474 cases were confirmed, respectively 45,086 cases of overseas immigration, 9,164,334 cases of local cases, 36 from the Dunmu fleet, 3 cases of aircraft infection, 1 case is unknown and 14 cases are under investigation. Since 2020, there have been a total of 15,833 COVID-19 deaths, including 15,813 local cases. The counties and cities where the cases live are distributed as follows: 3,075 cases in New Taipei City, 1,726 cases in Taipei City, 1,678 cases in Taichung City, 1,573 cases in Kaohsiung City, 1,179 cases in Tainan City, and 1,179 cases in Taoyuan City. 1,164 cases, 1,026 cases in Changhua County, 614 cases in Pingtung County, 519 cases in Yunlin County, 507 cases in Nantou County, 439 cases in Miaoli County, 412 cases in Chiayi County, 332 cases in Yilan County, 323 cases in Keelung City, 269 cases in Chiayi City, 268 cases in Hualien County, 261 cases in Hsinchu County, 198 cases in Taitung County, 172 cases in Hsinchu City, 40 cases in Penghu County, 38 cases in Kinmen County; the other 20 cases were imported from abroad.
The command center once again appealed that the public should complete vaccination as soon as possible, implement personal protective measures such as hand hygiene and cough etiquette, reduce unnecessary movement, activities or gatherings, and avoid entering and leaving crowded places or places with high risk of infection transmission. Actively cooperate with various epidemic prevention measures, and remind people with sensitive constitutions, chronic diseases, fever, or respiratory symptoms that it is still recommended to wear masks in densely populated areas to jointly maintain the health of domestic communities.
