The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today (20) that there were 18,218 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Taiwan, including 17,869 local cases and 349 imported cases; 61 new deaths were added among the confirmed cases.
According to the command center, 17,869 new local cases were added today, including 8,153 males, 9,705 females, and 11 cases under investigation. The age ranged from less than 5 years old to over 90 years old. The distribution of cases was New Taipei City (3,712 cases), Kaohsiung City (2,179 cases), Taoyuan City (2,121 cases), Taipei City (1,976 cases), Taichung City (1,893 cases), Tainan City (1,529 cases), Changhua County (734 cases), Hsinchu County (505 cases), Hsinchu County City (499 cases), Miaoli County (414 cases), Pingtung County (356 cases), Keelung City (335 cases), Yunlin County (311 cases), Yilan County (293 cases), Nantou County (252 cases), Hualien County (205 cases), Chiayi County (193 cases), Chiayi City (141 cases), Taitung County (100 cases), Kinmen County (65 cases), Penghu County (40 cases), Lianjiang County (16 cases) .
The command center pointed out that there were 61 local deaths reported today, including 35 males and 26 females, aged from their 30s to 90s. All had severe infections, 58 had a history of chronic diseases, 41 hadn’t received the recommended 3 or more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The date of diagnosis ranged from October 24 last year (2022) to January 17 (2023), and the date of death ranged from October 24 last year to January 17 this year.
The command center explained that among the 349 new cases of overseas immigration today, 203 were males and 146 were females, ranging in age from less than 5 years old to more than 80 years old. The date of entry is between December 20 last year and January 19 this year.
According to the statistics of the command center, as of now, there have been a total of 21,363,491 notifications related to the new type of coronavirus pneumonia in China (including 12,058,303 cases excluded), of which 9,302,697 cases were confirmed, including 46,534 imported cases, 9,256,109 local cases, 36 cases of dunmu fleet, 3 cases of aircraft infection, 1 case is unknown and 14 cases are under investigation. Since 2020, there have been a total of 16,038 COVID-19 deaths, including 16,018 local cases. The counties and cities where the cases lived were distributed as follows: 3,120 cases in New Taipei City, 1,749 cases in Taipei City, 1,714 cases in Taichung City, 1,585 cases in Kaohsiung City, 1,195 cases in Tainan City, and 1,195 cases in Taoyuan City. 1,180 cases, 1,037 cases in Changhua County, 625 cases in Pingtung County, 523 cases in Yunlin County, 516 cases in Nantou County, 441 cases in Miaoli County, 419 cases in Chiayi County, 333 cases in Yilan County, 325 cases in Keelung City, 270 cases in Chiayi City, 268 cases in Hualien County, 265 cases in Hsinchu County, 199 cases in Taitung County, 176 cases in Hsinchu City, 40 cases in Penghu County, 38 cases in Kinmen County; the other 20 cases were imported from abroad.
The command center once again appealed that the public should complete vaccination as soon as possible, implement personal protective measures such as hand hygiene and cough etiquette, reduce unnecessary movement, activities or gatherings, and avoid entering and leaving crowded places or places with high risk of infection transmission. Actively cooperate with various epidemic prevention measures, and remind people with sensitive constitutions, chronic diseases, fever, or respiratory symptoms that it is still recommended to wear masks in densely populated areas to jointly maintain the health of domestic communities.
