Coronavirus Vaccine in Taiwan - May/June 2021

yes

Your body’s immune response is kicking in!

A consistent experience with other vaccinated forumosans? I have not yet received the jab.

Guy

This happens to about 1 out of 10. This will pass after two or three days. I had it too.

Most people just have some pain in the shoulder area and a bit of tiredness.

I’m wondering about that 1 out of 10 number. Hasn’t pretty much everyone who’s posted here reported some sort of “Felt like crap for a bit” response? FWIW, the side-effect sheet I got at MacKay actually says the rate is equal to or greater than 1/10.

(I’m making two posts, not one, because this discussion is sort of off-topic and should perhaps be moved to another thread.)

From a New York Times article back in December:

From The Conversation, a website I know next to nothing about:

And something I need to learn more about: whatever the heck happened in Manaus, Brazil. There was a massive infection there last summer, and it was thought around 2/3 of the city was infected, and they now had natural herd immunity. But nope!

I was wondering that too. I’m thinking of cancelling but also want to get the vaccine…

My symptoms were more than just like crap.

In the evening after the shot I had severe fever, headache and shills. For about three hours I was like in a delirium state. The whole night was absolutely terrible. (I did not use any medication)
Next days it eased, but fever continued. I barely ate anything, all body muscles ached. I decided I was not in a state to drive and rested as much as possible.

In contrast my Taiwanese family (4 got vaccinated, 3f 1m) could continue their daily routine without issues.

Thanks for the data point: I’m not going to go back through the whole thread, but I believe those are the first four instances referred to in this thread where vaccine recipients didn’t (at a minimum) feel a bit crap.

No regrets or anything, but what I’ve been referring to as my first hangover in a decade wasn’t exactly pleasant. However, it sounds like you had it significantly worse.

The deadly blood clot problem in AZ concerns your brain, not your legs as in the case of deep vein thrombosis from flying. So unless you have some very very special socks where you can put your brain into, this will not really make any difference

There are trials underway for mixing vaccines, as the researchers believe this will lead to even higher levels of protection than using just one:

In the end, it seems that it won’t matter which vaccine you get first, as you will likely want to get a different one anyway for your second or third dose.

Mixing and matching vaccines is not yet approved.

Until there are clearer results and guidelines, it should not be recommended.

Guy

Also if you are going to mix vaccines (Taiwan is likely not going to give you moderna vaccines unless you are at least group 3) be prepared to lie. Because you will not get a different brand vaccine if you told them what vaccine you got.

Not to mention the vaccine passport thing would be problematic if you mixed vaccine brands outside of approval.

Maybe you can mix them with third booster dose?

Has the Taiwanese government said this?

The reason AZ vaccine is even available is because priority personnels won’t take them. TW government only ordered about 5 million doses. So there probably isn’t enough for even group 3 personnel.

The rest of the order is either AZ or Taiwan’s own version, of which they have about 10 million doses of each.

Yes but the research is not done yet. I was considering Pfizer for the second dose since AZ is not available in the US, but the verdict is still out.

There are still a number of people everywhere who won’t get vaccinated for whatever reason (because of rampant conspiracy theories). They are going to prolong the pandemic or possibly make vaccines useless.

I know someone who won’t because she thinks it’s bad or something. You got Christians who think it’s the mark of the beast or whatever.

Don’t forget there’s “long covid” too, as in you didn’t die but your long term symptoms are so debilitating that you will wish you were.

It’s why I’m not opposed at all to vaccine passports and the like.

Make it as difficult as possible for the morons. Especially when it comes to getting important jobs–my logic is, if someone is stupid enough to refuse the vaccine, he/she is too stupid to be trusted to fly an aircraft or save someone from a fire or teach children or arrest a criminal.

You also got the general anti vaxxers who did not remember the horrible diseases we used to get back in the day. Like small pox, polio, TB, etc.

Those disease has a VERY high mortality rate. Small pox kills like a third of those infected and debilitates the rest for life. Those diseases are stuff of nightmares.

I invite you to google smallpox victims… contains disturbing images, viewer discretion is advised.

It would be great to know more details regarding side effects of the AZ vaccine.

Gender
Age
Body Weight
Health Conditions
Diet
Sleep habits
etc

I think these all play a part in how our body reacts to the vaccine.

Can someone find a way to get a poll or spread sheet going that would show this data along with side effects experienced while keeping the individual anonymous?

EDIT
I’m making one now

Normal…You should be 90% tomorrow.
