Correcting mistake on Taiwan Marriage Certificate

Hello, Does anybody have an idea as to what steps need to be taken to correct a mistake on a marriage certificate issued in Taiwan?

My father is from New York and my mother is Taiwanese. They were married in Taiwain in 1971 and have lived in the US since. Recently, they noticed that my fathers date of birth is incorrect by a few days on their marriage certificate. They have been told by an attorney that this may be an problem in the future for collecting social security survivor benefits, militarey benefits, etc. Any suggestion would be better than the circles we’ve been running. Thanks!

It took them over 30 years to see that mistake? Wow!

I recommend that you contact Social Security directly for a clarification on benefits determination and distribution. Social Security often sends out a report to the social security recipient detailing how much they’re entitled to. This may affect your mother’s benefits but I fail to see how this would affect your father’s benefits.
